A Steal by Sather?

UPDATE: Dreger said this as well:

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger
Nash, cond.3rd (goes back to CBJ if NYR make Cup final), mnr leaguer Steve Delisle to NYR for Anisimov, Dubinsky, Erixon and 1st rnd pick.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger
Howson managed this trade his way, but the components of this deal were availabe at the deadline and again at the Draft.

It appears that New York Rangers’ general manager Glen Sather is more than capable of making solid hockey deals for the Blueshirts.

According to Darren Dreger at TSN, the Blueshirts will be acquiring Columbus Blue Jackets’ sniper Rick Nash for Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, young defenseman Tim Erixon and a 1st round pick. The trade is still pending the official call but should it go through, the Rangers should be considered the winners in this deal.

While Dubinsky has scored more than 20 goals before, he did not look the same last season. He did not look as confident, had trouble putting the puck in the net and was quiet offensively.

Anisimov, although a decent offensive player, was someone who was easily knocked off the puck and was not noticeable in every single game. Again, he was not a bad player but is someone who still has things to work on.

When it comes to Erixon, there is no doubt that he is a good, young defenseman but the Rangers already have a good stock of those. As such, Erixon became expendable.

With Marian Gaborik out until at least December, Nash better come to Broadway and put the puck in the net. We have seen trades/free-agent signings like this not workout before so hopefully, this will be a deal that works out for the Rangers.

What do you folks think?

Can we play some games first? Nash has never scored 80 points in a season and has to prove that he can be a big-time talent on a bigger stage. Best player the Jackets got is Erixon, who could be a first-pair D-man. There’s risk on both sides.

DonK(ing?)..... No.

CBJ has basically the best minor league roster than money can buy.

With Nash actually having a capable Center in Richards that can pass to him, and a more talented team all around, there’s no way he doesn’t top his point totals. He’s going to be a kid in a candy store.

With New York’s history of having stars underachieve, especially in the Sather era, I am not certain this will be a great deal. Nash has avoided the limelight and doesn’t want attention, but then he goes to NY. So it remains to be seen if he can stand the pressure. As for having better talent, don’t forget Nash did have Carter and nothing came of it.

Well FFS. I got it he’s a stud rookie but what about Del Zotto. He’s proven he can play. Good prospect does not equal a guy that cracks the roster this year. So the rangers trade a great prospect, a bottom 20 1st rounder (should have been 2), a guy the Rangers didnt want,  and a soft scorer. What a net. Congrats Howson, page 85 of your book “A boy amongst men - A Biography of the worst NHL GM ever” is now written. Although you will get the next top 5 1st overall picks in the future drafts.. But we know you are at that (see pages 18 through 36 of Howsons biography.

Howson. Have a deal for you.

Jody Shelly, Lilya, and Matt Walker, 2 7th rounders and a new Zambone for Savard, Erixson, J Johnson and 3 first rounders. Huh?? Sound good? Think about it a minute.

Ok well we will take those 2 extra 1st rounders, no no problem.. Sure? Deal.

Carter’s not a playmaking center though, he’s more like Nash is, which is why it was a dumb thing to trade for him in the first place.

Richards should definitely make Nash better.

You know, Wisniewski’s probably their best player now. It’s amazing to me that something like that could be true in the salary cap era. Wiz is just a smooth skating slapshot with sharp elbows and no brain.
