Over at RLD Hockey today, I dove deeper into what the Brandon Dubinsky injury means for the New York Rangers and more importantly, the club’s sniper Marian Gaborik.

When it comes to injuries this season, there has been no shortage of them for the New York Rangers.
Unfortunately for the Blueshirts, one of their best players in Brandon Dubinsky will be out for the next three to four weeks with a stress fracture of the fibula in his left leg. For a team that is struggling to score goals, this certainly came as bad news for the team and its fans.
With that said, this is a big opportunity for players on the team to once again step up with an important part of their team out of the lineup. Specifically, it is time for Rangers forward Marian Gaborik to step up and start contributing offense consistently like he did last season when he scored over 40 goals and put up over 80 points.
In 34 games this season, Gaborik has 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points. At first glance, these numbers do not look too bad but for someone as offensive as he is, these statistics are dreadful.
Yes, Gaborik has yet to play with a legitimate No. 1 center who can get him the puck on a consistent basis but that cannot be an excuse. Gaborik is suppossed to be an offensive leader for the Rangers and this season, he has not done that.
Last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Gaborik did exactly what he was suppossed to do as he stepped up offensively. He picked up his third hat trick of the season with four goals and added an assist for five points in the game.
Now, it will be up to Gaborik to keep that up and contribute on a more consistent basis with Dubinsky possibly out of the lineup for the next month.
