All Things Flaming C

As the Flames march down the trail of indifference, it’s nice to know they have the ability to be “in” every game. The Flames showed a little spunk tonight with a come from behind 5-4 overtime loss against the very pedestrian T.B. Lightning. The effort included Jarome’s 496th career snipe as well as Matt Stajan’s 1st of the year. Oh indeed the Dion Phaneuf trade continues to provide the egg in one’s beer. Earlier in the season the 2nd period was their undoing, while now it seems that they like to get Miikka a good post-pregame warmup by allowing a serious onslaught of shots in the first period.
To the gallant young team’s credit-(younger than they were in recent memory), the fellas continue to give themselves a chance to get a victory or at least a point. While sitting 2 points out of a playoff spot, if they could turn in 60 minute efforts more regularly, the team would be sitting in the top half of the conference. It’s hard to really state the positives in a powerplay that was 0 for 30 recently, and abysmal at the very best, it actually has shown better poise and creativity as of late. Perhaps with all the talk of Darryl Sutter returning to the coaching ranks of the Western Conference Kings, the visions of all the success D-Sutz engineered has struck a vein with the Flaming Horseheads. The D-Sutz coaching mirage that seems to be forming a 3-D silhouette has caused a serious stir. The fans in Calgary were staunch believers for so many years only to have their house of cards crumble so miserably, so frequently. The afore mentioned Darryl was given an endless rope to hang the fortune’s in Calgary, and out-to-dry was the legacy. We won’t rehash all the failed trades and signings at the point because I am all cried out. Los Angeles has been struggling and have relieved Terry Murray of his coaching responsibilities. The GM Dean Lombardi and D-Sutz have a past in San Jose and a veteran coach is what the Kings need. If only they were to view the underachieving results of the Flames of yore, maybe they would reconsider their reconnection. Whatever…Good luck in L.A., we’re all looking forward to seeing those radiant teeth with upgraded, botoxed cheeks.
The “C” plays again Friday evening against the very surprising 1st place Florida Panthers. This shows a solid example of solid free-agent acquisitions and astute trading. It shall be a challenge for the road weary Flames.
Sending some luck to the Sunshine State,
