All Things Flaming C

Night Watch by Rembrandt, Hare by Albrecht Durer, The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and Crash The Net by Brent Sutter. Most these works of art have had international acclaim and been successful over time. Last night the C of Flame celebrated Miikka Kiprusoff’s 35th birthday with a crucial 4-2 victory over the Quebec Nordiques of Colorado.
While calling last night’s game a masterpiece may be a stretch akin to Keith Tkachuk’s waistline as his career advanced, the boys did indeed come out on fire once again. See the imagery there folks, Flames-on fire…..?(crickets). Barnstorming to a 21-5 shot shot advantage in period 1, they were stuck in a 1-1 draw and the Flames faithfull were worried that they’d seen this play out before. Good start, minimal success, bad hop and a deficit and another booze-filled evening to wash away the stink of a missed opportunity. But the team managed to play hard and scored enough to beat the audacious Avalanche 4-2 on the strength of a 1st Star performance and 1st career NHL goal from RNH South. Mr Horak scored the 1st goal of the game/his career as he fell in the goal mouth but had real pizzazz throughout. It must had been quite a memory maker have the marvelous #12’s movie star smile congratulating you on such a feat. (Tear….pooling on cheek).
Coach Sutter again altered his game time lineup. Tony Babchuk was back in the lineup and they went with 7 d-men. That had Matt Stajan as a healthy scratch. Ouch. Dressing Babchuk for powerplays exclusively makes one wonder what’s up. Let’s hope that Mr Stajan comes back with a vengence and morphs into that $3.5 M fighting/big hit/scoring superstar everyone expects from his pay grade. Perhaps with 20/20 hindsight, maybe D-Sutz shouldn’t have been throwing such lavish deals around like tee-shirt giveaways at a CHL game. $1.25 M Stajan is loved and a decent 4th line Center. At his present rate he’s a bum and a complete waste of oxygen. Perhaps its not the players fault all the time. Good luck Matt, you are a nice boy. Maybe take on Ben Eager next Battle of Alberta.
The trade rumours are already swirling around Cowtown. The names being bandied about are minimal but Rene Bourque’s name has been coming up. Is he talented? Indeed. Did he snipe 27 goals each of the past 2 seasons? Why yes he did. Is he prone to inconsistent and possibly (whisper) lazy play? No comment. I do know that he played like the stud that he can be last evening and had 6 SOG and 2 g-notes. I am sure he has heard the rumors and didn’t want to the leave the greatest fans, never mind the most attractive, in the NHL. Latvia has the most attractive in the world, just so we’re not overstating. Perhaps J-Feast is sending out emails, texts and fake tweets that he’s in the business to start shopping players. If you can improve your team then why not? The Abbotsford Heat have 7 vets on the roster and only 5 can dress so perhaps there is an opportunity to share their depth with the other organizations. (Wink). Hater Nation, that means its a little bit of a joke. A comedic poke at the Flames lack of depth, if you will. Its always fun the speculate and discuss fantasy style trade scenarios thought rarely does the commoner’s valuation of the players mesh with the NHL GM’s/Scout’s real rate of return. I know I wasn’t sold on the Erixon for Horak and picks deal initially, though I’m indeed warming up to it.
The Flames take on the 5-4 (at present) St Louis Blues Friday night at the Dome. You can guarentee Kipper’s post bday party hangover will be old news and the Flambeau will be looking to make the homestand a success.
With love like no other,
P.S. Hater Nation, a money saving tip for Halloween-simply place a paper bag over your head and go as ugly Oiler fans. Its cheap and easy!
