Flames Cut 19!

Dearest Non-Oiler Fans:

Your Flaming C brass had to make some tough decisions Wednesday that resulted in 19 players being reassigned to Junior, or to Abbotsford.

For those not in the know, here are the how the cuts played out. To Abbotsford(for now):
C- John Armstrong, Justin Dowling, Quintin Laing, Mitch Wahl, and Dustin Sylvester.
RW- Bryan Cameron, Jonathan Rheault, and Ryan Howse.
LW- Rylay Grantham, Logan MacMillan, Turner Elson (tryout),and C.J. Severyn.
D- John Negrin, James Martin(tryout)
G- Adam Avramenko

To Junior:
RW- Michael Ferland-Brandon
RW- Patrick Holland- Tri-City
D- Joey Leach- Kootenay

RW- Blake Gal (Released)- Spokane

No major surprises here. What’s more surprising is that Calgary split with Vancouver in their home and away games Tuesday night. A team as deep and skilled as the Flames should conceivably dominate pretty much everyone. Paul Byron, Nic Hagman, and Sven Baertschi all stood out on the offensive front. The 18 year old spark plug from Switzerland is looking very good, though chances are the Flames dance card is filled with too many one-way contracts, at this point.

The Flames have 24 healthy forwards (BMo and Ivanans IR), 13 d-men and 4 goalies left in camp. The guys next chance to impress comes Saturday in BEAUTIFUL Edmonton and home Sunday versus the same blue and orange bagged Oilers. They wrap up the pre-season games the 27th (NYI) and 29th (Pho). The decision’s will be difficult, but chances are the core of the team is determined by the financial ramifications. Here’s hoping a couple training camp darlings emerge from the battles over the next week.

In the spirit of friendship,

Scooter Tonelli

P.S. Olli Jokinen is a really handsome dude with hair. Just saying.
P.S.S. The Super-Human Jarome Iginla has been having minor back issues but should be ready to go very soon, or even as you read this.

Funniest joke I’ve heard in a while

The problem with the Flames in recent history is that they’ve not found a spot for the 18 year old kid with fresh legs while keeping the dead weight with the big club.  That has unfortunately resulted in this team being outskated by the more skilled clubs and missing the playoffs.  I hope the new Feaster regime will give an opportunity to the kids b/c the mostly 30 something versions of the Flames have proven time and again they can’t get it done.
