Martin Brodeur Travels With Team After Injuring Shoulder

Seeing Martin Brodeur skate off the ice bent over in pain was the last thing that the Devils wanted to see last night.

After making a diving save in the first period against the Los Angeles Kings, Brodeur injured his shoulder. He finished out the first period, but was replaced by Johan Hedberg when the team came out of the dressing room to start the second period. Brodeur sat on the bench and watched the rest of the game with the team. He is currently listed as day-to-day and will travel with the team to Nashville as they prepare to take on the Predators. It looks like even though he is traveling with the team, Hedberg will most likely get the start.

“I hurt it when I dove back with my blocker on a shot from the point. I didn’t have a stick. I made the save with my blocker. It hurt. Trust me,” he said to Rich Chere of the Star Ledger. “My arm was fully extended. I just fell on it.”

“It’s swollen a little bit in the shoulder. It should be fine. It’s a matter of a couple of days to get the swelling down,” Brodeur said. “They (doctors) don’t feel there is anything serious about this injury. I’ve tweaked that shoulder lots of times.”

Hedberg, who replaced Brodeur in the second period, was flawless as he stopped all 16 shots that came his way.

The Devils play the Predators Saturday at 8 PM EST.

I am an all around NHL fan. I love to watch Atlantic Division, and root for the Philadelphia Flyers. Just because I cheer for the Flyers, doesn’t mean I don’t keep up with the other teams in the division, specifically the New Jersey Devils. Devils Advocate will provide you with the most important Devils news, filled with my opinion about the selected topic.
