Brodeur Returns; Zajac Skates

For the first time since injuring his shoulder against the Los Angeles Kings, Martin Brodeur will step back between the pipes to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at “The Rock” tonight.

“I’m looking forward to it,’’ Brodeur said after today’s morning skate. “It’s been a long time for me. Even in the season, I’ve only played one (full) game, so I never got any momentum going as far as my game’s concerned. The team is playing well, not getting any points, lately, so we’re going to definitely try to get to that right now.’‘

Head Coach Peter DeBoer is happy to have his star goaltender back, but is in no way disappointed with what he saw from backup Johan Hedberg for the six games he played.

“(He’s) obviously, one of the best goaltenders, if not the best of all time, and one of our leaders in our dressing room, so I think definitely an emotional and spiritual lift in there, seeing him back on the ice and ready to play,’’ DeBoer said.

In addition to Brodeur returning, Travis Zajac made an appearance the other day at the Devils practice rink and visited with his teammates. Zajac told reporters he has been skating and that he is feeling well. He has been skatin at his home in Winnipeg and is making stride to plan the comeback for the Devils in the future. He also said that he will definitely be playing this season.

Skating has been easy for Zajac due to the support of the skate compared to a regular shoe. With no set backs, I think the Devils can expect to see Zajac back in anywhere from 4-6 weeks.

About Devil's Advocate

I am an all around NHL fan. I love to watch Atlantic Division, and root for the Philadelphia Flyers. Just because I cheer for the Flyers, doesn’t mean I don’t keep up with the other teams in the division, specifically the New Jersey Devils. Devils Advocate will provide you with the most important Devils news, filled with my opinion about the selected topic.
