$4,500 Bonus

  • First, Michael Grabner was imported to the Canucks today in order to flush out a minimalist lineup. Excitement and trepidation ensues.
  • But then, Pavol Demitra promptly defies all the odds (built on an entire career of breaking off a body part every 10-15 games) and is now returning to the Canucks tomorrow night. Young Grabner’s dreams destroyed, he’s been packed off back to Manitoba.

Still, all is not lost. To compensate the rookie for his time, a bonus. From the Vancouver Sun:

Grabner did get to participate in the entire workout Thursday and pocketed about $4,500 US - his NHL salary for a single day - before heading to the airport, accompanied by fellow Moose call-up Alex Bolduc.

Canucks Thinned Down

From Sportsnet.ca

The Vancouver Canucks made their final roster moves on Monday, setting their opening night roster of 24 players.

Heading down to the AHL’s Manitoba Moose are D Luc Bourdon, RW Mike Brown, RW Patrick Coulombe, RW Jannik Hansen, RW Michael Grabner, LW Jason Jaffray, and C Rick Rypien. Also on Monday, the Canucks released D Dan McGillis.

McGillis was with the team since mid-September for a professional tryout.  Some of the others we can certainly expect to see again over the season.  (And probably fairly soon, if the Canucks continue their recent pace of landing in the hospital…)
