Canucks and Beyond

The Vancouver Canucks may not lead the league in on-ice performance (like the Wings), or corporate branding (like the Leafs) or pretty much anything else, but it seems like they’re always on the cutting edge when it comes to new ways to make money.
In Forbes, I saw this today:
[Two] major league sports franchises, baseball’s New York Mets and hockey’s Vancouver Canucks, have signed deals with Nortel Networks to upgrade their in-house voice and data systems, likely leading to instant concession stand ordering from all over the arena.
In ESPN The Magazine they’ve taken 122 sports franchises (MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL) and had 80,000 fans rank their favorite team by a variety of measures. (Check out all the rankings, or your own favorite team, here).
Looking at Vancouver, fans’ dissatisfaction is seen in ranking their team at 91st place—meaning fans of 90 other teams were happier with their organization than Canuck fans are. (Of all the Canadian teams, only Toronto fans were more disgusted with their club, ranking at 121st place).
Which prompted this quick assessment from ESPN’s Brian Kamenetzky:
I spotted this graphic on Sportsnet the night of the game against San Jose.
“Upload your Canucks playlist to iTunes” and you might get a chance to sit in DJ Dave’s booth and help choose the playlist for GM Place that night.
While this strikes me as a reasonably decent contest idea (I think nearly everyone in Vancouver has bitched about the tunes at GM Place at some point or another) I’m not sure I’ll much care for the musical choices of most people who are likely to enter this thing.
Seems like there’s a very real chance some jackass puts K-Fed on the speakers at a million decibels…
