Torres Disciplinary Hearing on Thursday

From TSN:

Vancouver Canucks forward Raffi Torres is scheduled for a disciplinary hearing over the phone on Thursday over his hit to the head of Jordan Eberle of the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, this quote from Torres seems to have a few people in a tizzy since last night:

“If they are trying to get rid of clean hits like that, what’s this league going to be in a couple of years?”

Well, it wasn’t a “clean” hit, but I’m not sure it was quite as bad as some others would argue, either. (i.e.  JJ’s “Glass Houses” thing is a fair point).  Regardless, tomorrow we’ll find out what the league itself thinks—but if he’s sitting out any playoff games, as was proposed last night, I’d be pretty surprised.

As a Canuck fan, I believe Torres can do a lot more than delivering illegal hit.  Didn’t he score a hat trick this season against the Oilers in Edmonton?  This major and the other major Burrows took (which was not nearly as bad) should be something the players never do again, especially during the playoffs.

The Glass Houses thing is a facile point, poorly made.  I think we’re a lot further along in our awareness of head hits now than we were then.  That’s like saying a Devil’s fan can never complain about a head hit without being a hypocrite because they didn’t want to run Scott Stevens out of town when his “legal” hit ended Lindros’s career once and for all.

We know better now.  And that crap has to go.
