“Marty Reasoner to Canucks” Mayhem

A swirl of rumors, fake tweets and re-tweets led to the only moment of excitement in Canucks land so far today when TSN’s Gord Miller (who quickly turned out not to be TSN’s Gord Miller) posted this:  “Can confirm Florida has traded Reasoner to #Canucks for 3rd in 2011” .  This was quickly re-tweeted by numerous people, including members of the NHL’s media, but which obviously proved not to be true.  Sportnet’s Dan Murphy:

Don’t believe the Reasoner rumour. Plenty of fake twitter accounts out there. Haven’t heard anything from Rogers Arena yet.

And beat writer Matthew Sekeres would agree: “Canucks have NOT acquired Marty Reasoner for a 3rd rd pick. False report.”

As for any upcoming Reasoner/Canucks speculation, don’t get your hopes up.

According to beat writer George Richards in Florida, a Reasoner trade is “100%” not happening.

Fake Twitter accounts… so annoying.  But gotta love roller coaster ride of deadline day, right?

If you don’t laugh, you’ll just start beating your head against a wall…

How pathetic can a person be to have to make a fake twitter account just to screw with people?

Ugh, I hate people…

I know this Internet Thing is kinda new and everyone’s all excited and so forth, but maybe employees of the NHL could be intelligent enough to establish beforehand which twitter accounts/blogs/websites actually belong to established journalists, teams, players, and other relevant, confirmable sources, before doing the equivalent of telling all their friends about what someone down at the supermarket who claimed to be Dick Cheney but actually looked suspiciously like Whoopi Goldberg told them about a Grand Conspiracy Against The American People involving Barack Obama and bees of communist persuasion.

Aaaand breathe…

And YES in case you asked, Dick Cheney actually told me about this, and I think it’s an absolute outrage! And his cornrows were very impressive for a bald man.

I have to give Kudo’s to Sportsnet for streaming their draft coverage online…allowing an American slob like me to be able to watch down here in Oregon.  It was pretty fun to listen to the banter and the speculation all day.  Even though 98% of it was crap…its fun listening to the crap now and then.

Garth— I agree people can be annoying.  smile  But occasionally it can be amusing.  For instance, there was someone who posted a couple of “breaking trade news” things today that we saw, who weren’t giving credit where it was due, and got busted since their breaking news was someone else’s practical joke.  If they’d given proper credit, at least they could explain how it happened!

Mr. Fnytelhatt— I think the problem is just the sense of urgency that happens at trade deadline.  Everyone gets so insane about being first, they don’t take the extra half second to be sure they’re actually right. It’s not good, I agree. We didn’t make any similar mistakes on KK - although I’ll admit I came verrrrrrry close on this particular Reasoner story - but I can see how it happens.  It’s like some sort of communal hockey madness. smile

GzExpat—Watching the crap is fun.  If nothing else, it reminds us we’re all part of a giant community of people who—inexplicably—care about all this crap!
