How to Make Hockey More Exciting

From Next Media Animation:

The Stanley Cup Finals have begun, featuring the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins.

Americans don’t know who to root for. The Canucks are Canadian and Boston is one of the most-hated sports cities in the US.

Video is in Taiwanese, apparently.* I’ve included the English version at the bottom, but seriously, Taiwanese is really what makes the magic happen…

English:

*Note: Commenter below states the top video is actually in Mandarin Chinese. I stand corrected.  Certainly, no disrespect to anyone is intended, but it’s all basically Greek to me, as the saying goes. smile

Why oh why is there not an American channel doing this yet?

What’s with the klan hoods on those rowdy fans?

The video is actually in Mandarin Chinese (the official language in both mainland China and Taiwan), not Taiwanese.  The term “Taiwanese” commonly refers to the regional language/dialect that used by people in Taiwan, derived from a language/dialect spoken in Fujian province of China, the place of origin of many Taiwanese people.

That’s interesting Kel. Thanks. The strange this is, Next Media Animation is promoting it themselves in their press release as being in “Taiwanese”.

I’m afraid I’m not too clued-in on the dialects, myself. smile

I’m pretty sure that Next Media Animation company is based in Taiwan, so it’s not a surprise that they use the word Taiwanese liberally in their English-language materials.  There is probably a political reason for it too.  I can imagine that pro-independence Taiwanese people avoid using the word Chinese on anything related to Taiwan.
