The Legend? It Lives On From The Chippewa On Down.  In Its Honor?  An NHL Awards Show Live Blog

I’ll be editing this as we move along.

Gordie Howe, Lifetime Achievement Award?  Could it have gone to anyone else?

Lidstrom, Norris?  Check. Legendary.  2nd Best Ever?  Maybe.  Maybe Better.

Datsyuk, Selke? Check.  “Long speech, but English is little.”

Zetterberg, Selke? Denied, but with a big old consolation trophy.

Datsyuk, Byng? Check. There was no doubt.

Chelios, Masterson? Denied, but with a Cup, and still with a job…allegedly.

Uncle Mike Babcock, Adams?  Denied, but there is no doubt, none, who the best coach in the NHL is.

It’s a dynastic Live Blog.

Jimmy D Jr.:  Pencil The Wings in For NYC

In the last few months Chris Chelios has become the live, local and late breaking news maker for Wing fans.  Blake to the Wings? Absolutely.  McCarty to the Wings? Yep.  Fedorov to the Wings? Sure.

Now?

Khan(!)

Wings defenseman Chris Chelios claims the Wings will be playing the Rangers in that rumored outdoor game at Yankee Stadium next season.

“I heard Detroit’s playing,’’ Chelios said after practice Monday. “Awesome, to be part of the last event at Yankee Stadium would be something special.’‘

“Not an exact date,’’ Chelios said. “I was talking to someone (who) mentioned that it might be a done deal already. I hope it is, anyway.’‘

Lidstrom, MSM Constistency, Chelios and Another Frigging Contest

Pierre LeBrun, on Toronto’s Fan 590, said earlier that Lidstrom is going to have to convince Uncle Mike he’s ready if he expects to play this Sunday, that the staff will take exactly zero chances on a re-injury.  Good.

Proof Positive

Stu Nahan, in the second round of the second Balboa/Creed fight, said, “...and I thought Balboa took a beating the first time these two fought but this is a butchering.  That’s what it is, plain old butchering.” Rocky, of course, eventually wore the Master of Disaster down, waited until the 13th to break a few more of his ribs, then miraculously rose to his feet as the Spectrum crowd sobbed in joy.  It was, as Rocky would tell you, the greatest moment of his life—with the exception of his kid being born.

Last night was, as Stu would tell you, a butchering from start to finish.  Every facet. Every shift. San Jose can go 65 and 5 the rest of the way, but they’re not beating Detroit in a playoff series.  Not after last May and not after last night.

Back When Hate Was Good

Jibblescribbits posted this today after finding it at Bethany’s.  I’d assume it’s ‘98 or early ‘99.

And In Rode Bubba

What a coincidence. The first full day A2Y is back in operation and who should come a callin? Ahhh, yes. Little Brother Bubba. The headline in the Daily Tennessean this morning? "Predators Have Strong Disdain For Detroit." Nice alliteration, Arlo. But, see, 90 percent of your audience has no idea what it means. It's ok. It's going to be ok. I'm sorry for teasing. As strongly worded as that headline may be, the story does nothing to back it up. I expected to read a quote from Steve Sullivan, mush-mouthedly making grand claims that the Central belonged to Bubba. Nah, this is as strong as it gets. Daily Tennessean/Jessica Hopp

"They are a good team, and no matter what they do in the offseason they are good," Vasicek said. "They have showed that in the last 10 years."
