Your Detroit Red Wings 2018-19 Schedule

06/21/2018 at 5:34pm EDT

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today released their schedule for the 2018-19 season and the team’s 93rd overall in the National Hockey League. The Red Wings will open the campaign at home on Thursday, Oct. 4 versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. Little Caesars Arena will host 19 weekend home games (seven Fridays, six Saturdays and six Sundays), spanning through the regular-season finale at home on Saturday, April 6 against the Buffalo Sabres.

This season’s 82-game slate includes four games against each Atlantic Division rivals (28 games), three games against the eight teams in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division (24 games) and two games against all 15 Western Conference foes (30 games).

Following the Home Opener, the Red Wings will play six of their next seven games on the road spanning from Oct. 7-20. The on-ice action will be in full swing at Little Caesars Arena starting at the end of October, with Detroit hosting seven of its next eight games from Oct. 22 - Nov. 9. A season-high nine home games will be held at Little Caesars Arena in the month of November.

A busy month of December features 16 games, including seven at home, and culminating with the team’s annual New Year’s Eve matchup on Monday, Dec. 31 against the Florida Panthers. The NYE game is the first of five consecutive at Little Caesars Arena (Dec. 31 – Jan. 8), which matches the team’s longest homestand of the season – also occurring from Feb. 17-26. The early January homestand is highlighted by a visit from Alex Ovechkin and the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals on Sunday, Jan. 6. The Red Wings will finish off January with five of six on the road, which includes the team’s swing through Western Canada (Jan. 18 at Calgary; Jan. 20 at Vancouver; Jan. 22 at Edmonton).

After nine days without game action, the Red Wings will host Original Six foe, the Toronto Maple Leafs, on Friday, Feb. 1 in the first leg of a back-to-back – one of 13 such occurrences on the season. March features a road-heavy schedule with 10 games away from Little Caesars Arena, including a season-high five game road trip from March 19-28. The Red Wings will then host four of the team’s final five games (March 29 – April 6) at home to close the 2018-19 season.

Special nights on the 2018-19 docket include the Red Wings’ traditional night before Thanksgiving game (Wednesday, Nov. 21) against the Boston Bruins, a game on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) against the Ottawa Senators and the Red Wings lone visit of the year from Original Six rival Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Additionally, the Red Wings have two home-and-home series on this year’s schedule – Philadelphia (Feb. 16 at Wells Fargo Center; Feb. 17 at Little Caesars Arena) and Pittsburgh (April 2 Little Caesars Arena; April 4 at PPG Paints Arena).

Single-game tickets for the 2018-19 regular season go on sale Friday, Aug. 24 and can be purchased at the Little Caesars Arena XFINITY Box Office (313-471-7600) or online at DetroitRedWings.com.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
