08/24/2020 at 2:33pm EDT

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings today signed forward Robby Fabbri to a two-year contract extension.

Fabbri, 24, was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 6, 2019 in exchange for center Jacob de la Rose and logged 31 points (14-17-31) and 18 penalty minutes in 17:16 average ice time over 52 games for Detroit. He notched six multi-point games since the acquisition, including a two-goal game in his Red Wings debut on Nov. 8 to become the seventh player in franchise history to score twice in his team debut and the second over the last 34 years. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Fabbri has recorded 104 points (46-58-104) and 78 penalty minutes in 216 NHL games between St. Louis and Detroit since entering the league. Fabbri ranked seventh on the Blues in points as a rookie in 2015-16, accumulating 37 points (18-19-37) in 72 regular-season games and tying for the team lead in postseason scoring with 15 points (4-11-15) in 20 games during the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Limited to 83 games over the next three seasons due to injury - including missing the entire 2017-18 campaign - Fabbri was a member of the Blues' 2019 Stanley Cup championship run, contributing six points (2-4-6) in 32 regular-season games and adding a goal over his 10 playoff appearances that spring.

Originally drafted by St. Louis in the first round (21st overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Fabbri made the Blues' opening-night roster immediately after his final season of major junior hockey, where he racked up 171 points (80-91-171) in 147 games with the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm from 2012-15, while adding 33 points (14-19-33) over 30 career OHL postseason games. His best OHL season came when he registered 87 points (45-42-87) in 58 games with Guelph in 2013-14, where he was a teammate of Red Wings left wing Tyler Bertuzzi on the eventual OHL-champion Storm. Fabbri captured the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as the most-valuable player in the 2014 OHL playoffs after totaling 28 points (13-15-28) in 16 games. Fabbri also owns two gold medals representing Team Canada by way of the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.
