Violated

The Wings, appropriately, played the role of Ned Beatty’s “Bobby” last night…and they played it to perfection. While not in Georgia, the haunting melody of Dueling Banjos was everywhere.

And when directed, they squealed like pigs, tried to run away, yet were caught time after time. Assaulted. Humiliated. Hopefully? Disgusted.

Ted Kulfan

Babcock gave his team the day off Sunday, but you get the feeling the defeat will be on all the Wings’ minds.

Really? Do you get that feeling? There are about 19 of us who can’t even function today because of this. Oh, yeah. We’re dramatic and we make too much out of pretty much everything. But, seriously. How can last night’s episide not call many, many aspects of Detroit’s game into question.

Back to that line from Kulfan. Is this something that will stick with this team? One way or another, this one’s going to define how the Wings do come April. This game is going to be the one we look back to and say, “I knew that night…”

Finish it. Finish that line. Will the Wings let the anger they should be feeling today drive them to the level of intensity required to defend what they have?

Honestly, I’m not in the mood to give a fuck today. That was pathetic. How does a team that is supposed to be so proud allow something like that?

Hey. How about this. Three days before the trade deadline and you get bent over to the tune of 8 goals. You think anybody’s worried today? I mean, I know Uncle Mike gave them the day off and I’m sure everyone’s enjoying a nice little family day. I know I would be if I completely and overwhelmingly failed at my job less than 24 hours before. Think Tick Tock’s a little more tempted to pull the trigger on a deal, one he wouldn’t have seriously considered yesterday morning? Probably not.

Or did last night convince Kenny Holland, like it seemed to convince a few of us, that this team’s commitment to the hard things in hockey is so poor that a successful defense of the Cup is an impossibility? If that’s the case…fuck it. Again, I’m not in the mood.

And no, I haven’t watched the Don Cherry thing yet. I saw this over at George’s and I’m not ready to deal with the kind of anger that racist piece of trash is going to generate. So…yeah, fuck that too. Watch it if you haven’t, if you want. I probably will later. But not yet.

Hey. I wonder. Do you think the Wings had any idea that by the time the game with Bubba began last night San Jose was down two goals in Montreal? I swear to god I just can’t fathom how there isn’t a little extra motivation when they must have seen the opportunity to come within one point of the Sharks.

So I’m curious now. I’m curious what this team has left in terms of heart and pride. I’m curious how they’ll react. I’m curious how the family days are going. I’m wondering which Wings are staring off into space today, angry and confused…and which ones have set it aside, forgotten it, chalked it up as “the exeption.” Oh. I hear ya. I know it’s merciless of me to wish that these guys are dealing with a few tense hours of introspection today instead of fun with their families. I know that’s “cold” of me. Well, too bad and fuck that too. You’re making millions…I think a few of those dollars should guarantee that the day after you suck so badly, so frigging disgustingly badly, that your conscience prompts a little pause.

8-0 to the Nashville Predators, a team that plays hard every night. At least they do against the Wings. Every game those guys leave it out there. We can pick on that city, those fans, blah frigging blah. But at least the effort is there. And all that effort with not a single playoff round victory to show for it.

11 Cups up north and look what we got last night. Pathetic is what that was.

Squealing like Beatty for sixty minutes.
