Videos- Wrapping up The Wings/Sharks Game

from Dana Wakiji of the Wings website,

What could have been a great road trip ended up being a pretty good one for the Red Wings.

Once again, the Wings rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the game, had great chances in overtime but fell in the shootout, 4-3, to the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center Saturday night.

Detroit fell to 7-12-3 overall and finished the trip 1-0-2....

Andreas Athanasiou (two) and Taro Hirose scored for the Wings....

Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard (2-8-1), making his first start since Nov. 6 in New York, made 16 saves, none bigger than getting his glove on a point-blank shot from Logan Couture in the slot with 1:40 left in regulation.

I thought we played a great road game and deserved the win. Quite impressive playing without 3 top defensemen.

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press on why the youngsters remain in Grand Rapids,

“We’re trying to do everything possible to put our prospects in the best position to succeed long term,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “Certainly if Steve thinks one of those guys in the minors is best-served being up here, then they’d be up here. He used the word to me once — ‘thriving’ — it’s a hard league to thrive in until you’re ready to thrive. In terms of prospects, that’s totally dependent on what’s best for their long-term development.”...

ilip Zadina, the sixth overall pick in 2019, produced five goals and five assists in 10 games between Oct. 25 and Nov. 15 in the AHL, and that’s where the Wings want him to continue to thrive after a mediocre showing during exhibition season.

“Filip Zadina has had a hard go,” Blashill said. “It hasn’t been easy. What happens when you go through those trials is, confidence gets lost. And confidence is a huge thing in this world. Anybody that has had their confidence shook, can attest to that. And it’s reality.
