from Josh Berenter of the Wings website,

When NHL teams endure lopsided losses early in the season, a sense of urgency quickly kicks in and teams can start to press. That’s what the Detroit Red Wings are hoping to avoid as they begin a two-game series against the defending Western Conference-champion Dallas Stars this week.

After two tough losses in Chicago, the 2-4 Red Wings will look to right the ship as they wrap up a four-game road trip with two games against the 2-0 Stars at the American Airlines Center, starting Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m.

“Of course there’s urgency,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. “Regardless of how long the season is, nobody wants to get into a streak where you’re losing. Certainly a shortened season has a bigger impact right away.

“Do we want to nip this in the bud? Absolutely. Is there urgency to do that? Absolutely. Do we face a really good opponent that’s played two great games so far? Yes. So we’ve got our hands full, for sure.”

Is Blashill as boring as dirt to listen to? Absolutely. Is there a feeling that he doesn’t know what he’s doing? Absolutely. Do we need to get rid of him as soon as possible? Hell yes.

I guess we should also fire Yzerman? If he can’t spot this terrible coach like you can, we need a new GM?

Well, it’s 50/50 seemingly Blashill comes back
after this weird, truncated season. When more
top prospects will likely be in the mix.

I don’t hate Blashill and am no expert on coaching.
But his cliches do half drive me crazy.

He’s apparently the odds on first firing.
I doubt Stevie Y will do that midseason,
short of a mutiny. But it says something that’s
a widely held viewed - that he’s on thin ice.
Part of that is: we aren’t a good team yet; part of that
is just his tenure. But last year’s team was so bad and it’s
clear the GM wasn’t going of blame the coach for such weak personnel.
Which is classy to be honest. It won’t hurt when he does interview top coaches
for the next stage of the rebuild

Nope, just Blashill.

Nothing against Blashill, but it’s time for him to go.  He’s the 2nd longest tenured coach in the NHL.  Coaches in the NHL have a limited shelf life even when they are winning because eventually the players have heard all of his speeches and really start to tune him out. I don’t think that a new coach is going to instantly turn the Wings into contenders, but I think there are other coaches out there who can get more out of this roster than Blashill has.  His strength was supposed to be his ability to teach younger players, but I’ve seen too many players, both young and old, regress under him.

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

When the NHL schedule was announced, players were generally enthused about the baseball-style format of it.

Mostly two-game sets, often with a day between games.

Now that the Red Wings have lived the schedule a bit and are in the midst of a road trip, they’re giving a big thumbs up, too.

“I have nothing against it, it’s good,” defenseman Patrik Nemeth said after Tuesday’s morning skate on a Zoom media chat. “Especially in times like this, it’s a real good solution. There’s nothing wrong with it.”

There’s less actual travel and more opportunity for rest. The second games of the series are, generally, more intense than a standard regular-season game. And in the current COVID climate, there’s less exposure to a fewer amount of cities given teams are only playing intra-division matchups.

Today’s COVID list remains the same for the Wings.

I would think someone who’s as sharp as you are, Murray, would be able to spot satire. So let me clarify.

I know that it’s highly unlikely that Yzerman will fire Blashill before the end of the season. On the other hand, if he doesn’t fire him after the season is over (especially if Gallant is still available), then I might have to rethink my support for him.
