Videos- A Nice Night For Carter Mazur

from David Morassutti of Sportsnet,

2nd Star: Carter Mazur, USA
Coming into the tournament, Carter Mazur is looking to build off an impressive season at the University of Denver.

While he was in a scoring slump in his first NCAA season, the Detroit Red Wings prospect made a call to his NHL team’s assistant director of player development, Daniel Cleary. After that, he would go on to finish with 14 goals and 38 points in 41 games.

Those tips have now turned Mazur into a scoring machine as he accounted for two of the team’s seven goals and was also named the player of the game as the top line of Mazur, Landon Slaggert, and Thomas Bordeleau had an impressive performance against Switzerland

After a scoreless first period, Mazur wasn’t going to make any mistake on a point-blank chance in front of the net with Mackie Samoskevich making a great pass from behind the net.

With the Americans looking to add to their lead, Mazur was once again the beneficiary of a great pass from Slaggert as he made no mistake from the front of the net.

He added another assist on Slaggert’s goal later in the period for his third point of the game. Through his first two games at the world juniors, Mazur has four points and is tied for sixth in scoring.

Below, watch both of Mazur's goals.

Lyle Richardson at The Bleacher Report does a top 10 redraft of the 2020 NHL draft,

With the first-overall pick in the 2020 NHL draft, the New York Rangers chose Alexis Lafreniere. A better choice, however, might’ve been Lucas Raymond, who was selected fourth overall by the Detroit Red Wings.

A creative, defensively responsible forward who can skate on either wing, Raymond spent the 2020-21 season with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League. That additional season skating against professionals served the youngster well when he made his NHL debut in 2021-22.

Raymond was an immediate hit with the rebuilding Red Wings in 2021-22. With 23 goals and 57 points in 82 games, the 20-year-old winger finished third on his team and among all NHL rookies in scoring. He fit in well at right wing on Detroit’s first line alongside center Dylan Larkin and left wing Tyler Bertuzzi.

The Rangers chose Lafreniere in this draft because he was ranked as the top prospect, but he’s a natural left wing. Already deep at that position with Chris Kreider and Artemi Panarin, the Rangers moved Lafreniere to the right wing where he had just 21 points in 56 games in his first season and 31 points in 79 games last season.

Raymond’s versatility would’ve made him a better fit with the Rangers. His rookie performance with the Wings suggests he would’ve been a ready-made first-line scorer on the Blueshirts’ right wing.

in front of the net

is the key for Mazur last night!

It wasn’t the best opponent, but on a team with Connor Bedard, I’ll take this for Mazur. Yzerman nabbed great mid-round players in TB, so hitting on this pick would be good for DET.

Here’s to a continued upward trajectory.

Everything leading up to a goal is meaningless if the shooter doesn’t bury it BUT, those were two sick feeds.

Hate to say it, but Mazur reminds a bit of ... uh [ahem] ... Rosby.

There I said it.  The kid’s a finisher.  Granted that this is just a very small sample, but Mazur’s showing an instinct to be exactly where he needs to be for a scoring chance and at a perfect timing.

Totally agree Murray, those were some incredible passes and Mazur buried them. USA has a solid line up
