Underway Preps

This post is about as A2Y-specific as they come.  So, if you’re reading on the main page and you, you know, aren’t fond of us…you may want to just keep on moving.

By my calculations, and you all know that doesn’t exactly spell “precise”, I’ve got five games left in my season.  It could be more depending on satellite coverage in various parts of the world.  But all I know for certain is that I’ve got five left while stateside before heading out on a long, long, long pleasure cruise that’s gonna go right up to the parade I’ve confirmed is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14th in Hockeytown.  I bring this up now because there are a few things we have to discuss as we move closer to the departure date.

First: I’m going it alone.  What I mean by that is I’m gonna try and keep the blog going by myself.  Voox nailed it last year while I was gone and I apprceciate it, but I think he learned quickly that it can be a burden as much as it can be a blast.  He knows that he’s always got posting priveleges here, but I’m not going to put the whole deal on his shoulders.  You’ll still hear from Okie every game day, too.  I’ll be posting the Live Blogs and I’m going to see how the rest of it works: posting my opinion on the Wings and on other things without actually watching hockey.  You’ll have to keep in mind that if I don’t post for a while, it’s due to bandwidth issues at sea.

Secondly:  there is no secondly.  That was pretty much it.  Posting up to the time I leave is going to be a bit sporadic as I’ll be getting ready to go.  I’m telling you guys this because you need to know how this season’s gonna work here at A2Y, not to generate 19 “goodbye” comments.  None of you are ever shy about voicing your support for what I do as a day job and for what everyone in uniform does for a living. I appreciate those sentiments and there is no need to re-hash them here.  I got it. And I appreciate it.

Oh, and thirdly, because there’s always a thirdly:  There’s gonna be an H2H2.  And you’d better go because it’s going to be bigger, better and bitchier than last year.  Jen MacRostie and all those who made it happen last season have been working this one, literally, since the day after Herm hit Hockeytown.  Contact Jen for all the info you need: jennyquarx at gmail dot com.

Speaking of fourthly, I’ve been giggling like a little bitch at the Colin Campbell saga.  (a) because Tyler Dellow’s a great blogger and it’s absolutely awesome to see him getting cited all over the MSM for this thing.  (b) because so much about this league is a farce, and it’s great to see such bullshit exposed like this and (3)....

image

Looking like a group of geniuses right there, eh?  And check out Gramps in the middle.  Conspiracy theorists?

So…hey all you fuchsticks who claim our Tin Foil Hats have no merit?  Huh. What do you have to say now?  Still completely out of the realm of possibility that Gary Bettman’s hatred of Detroit, the Ilitch family and the Wings is that far fetched?  Really?  If Campbell is doing this, or was, has been, whatever…is it that hard to imagine an email trail with “Holmstrom” as a subject line?

On the Campbell thing, check out Mandingo’s comments over at the Emperor’s main page. He’s drilling it.

Okie Dokie then.  Enjoy your Tuesday bitches.

Oh wait…fifthly.  See this from Uncle Mike yesterday?  I’ll bet the Pimp and Ozzie are having themselves a hate-fest today.

It doesn’t appear as if Osgood is ready to return as Jimmy Howard’s backup for Wednesday’s game.

“He didn’t last seven minutes in practice, so I guess he’s not ready to practice,’’ Babcock said. “I thought he was staying out for practice. I didn’t even notice he was gone.”

Ok. Now I’m done.

Last subject first, Drapes stays on LTIR so’s Joey can stay up as Ozzie’s cap space back up.

v00x put too much into his posts, everyone was a gem and was way efforted, unnecessary to be that perfectionist for this lot.  We aren’t pharmacists in here.  Hope to hear from him soon.

Good luck getting a half/dial-up equivalent internet connection out there chief.  The brass tends to put all that comms gear into receiving and breaking EAMs and other mission essential shit. Go figure.

Agreed that Slingbox is awesome.  Anne from Kansas’ cable provider doesn’t carry Center Ice and She wanted to try the Slingbox over Gamecenter, so she bought it and put it on my system.  Since I watch all the Red Wings’ games anyway, she just pulls it from me.

Of course, it also lets you change channels and do anything with the cable box that the remote can do, so she’s under strict orders to leave my box the damn hell alone or I’ll start locking it on Univision.

Only problem for Chief is that Slingbox requires fast internet, which he likely won’t have for most of his three-hour tour.

There’s gonna be an H2H2.

Great, since I missed it last time around and should be in MI for a few months. Would be cool idea if Herm could pass the torch and find another person who has never seen a game to keep the newness factor/excitement alive. That was a big part of why the draw was so popular, at least for me.

Cheers!

If there is any newcomers to this website let me just tell you that all the bloggers what’s blogging all this stuff about Colin Campbell blogging Stephen Walkom are not real bloggers. All you bloggers ruin the internet.

Anyway, speaking of ColinCampbellEmailsWhereHeCallsMarcSavardAFakerAndWhinesAboutHisMotherf*ckingSonGate, anyone see this latest hand-wringing, leave-Britney-alone salvo from the Toronto Star’s Damien Cox?

http://thestar.blogs.com/thespin/2010/11/colin-campbell-and-those-e-mails.html

This…

E-mails. Again. They tripped up Ted Saskin, or at least his penchant for reading those of others, and now it’s Colin Campbell’s turn.

This is the great “AHA!” moment for some, and while it’s not quite a Tiger Woods sexting episode, it’s making the NHL’s disciplinarian squirm.

Actually, that was more the case nine months ago when the emails were first made public at a hearing into the dismissal of referee Dean Warren. Star reporter Rob Cribb, one of the best in the business, covered that hearing with a series of stories that included Campbell’s emails to referee-in-chief Stephen Walkom.

And no one cared. Nobody else even covered the story. And the NHL wasn’t happy that The Star did.

Today, the reverberations are different because local blogger Tyler Dellow took the evidence one step further, putting together some evidence on the players he believes Campbell was referring to in those emails, including Campbell’s son.

Now, suddenly everybody cares. When it was just about a fired ref, it didn’t matter. It’s an interesting comment on these media times, including the fact some “bloggers” are twisting this to suggest the “main stream media” is out to protect the establishment and figures in power. Why these people weren’t outraged and up in arms when Cribb was writing his stories and The Star was publishing them is unclear. If you employ the logic of the bloggers, their silence was evidence that they were the ones protecting the establishment.

...is the single most disingenuous thing I’ve seen written about this whole affair so far. I didn’t think it was possible that Damien Cox could be an even bigger hyperventilating dick, but here we are.

Yeah, Damien, nobody cared about the e-mails when the original story ran because…wait for it…THE TORONTO STAR DIDN’T BOTHER TO PRINT THE E-MAILS THAT REFERRED TO SAVARD AND CAMPBELL’S SON.

God, does this moron actually think people are going to fall for this end-around?

DoucheHatCheckGirl and the Toronto Globe and Mail are just as bad. The Canadian print MSM must realize that the only reason people read their bird-cage-liners is for the hockey coverage. So anything the gives the NHL a black eye is bad for circulation.

100% of the comments to DoucheHatCheckGirl’s column on the email scandal is critical of his opinion. Literally NOBODY agreed with him. I’m not going to give Damien and the Star any clicks, but I’ll go way out on a limb here and guess that none of the comments to his piece back him up either.

You have to be somewhat intelligent to get into a 4 year college and earn a journalism degree. Yet these MSM maroons have completely checked their brains at the door. The complete miss the concept that when one is the arbiter of fairness (be it in a court of law or running a pro sport league) the appearance of impropriety is just as bad as real impropriety

That’s OK, because as we’ve been assured of constantly the last couple days by the Old Boy Network Media Syndicate, Campbell is a “good guy.”

Cox has been a hack since he started with the Star way back when I was a younger pup reading the sports page over my bowl of Cap’n Crunch. Maybe if the first reporter had actually done some “investigative journalism” (since that’s what Cox referred to him as) instead of just a mindless “here’s the facts now I’m done” type of story, then it would have generated a response. The irony of the whole situation is that he accused Dellow of not having contacted the NHL or Campbell to get his side of it before making his allegations, yet Cox did the exact same thing with Jose Bautista earlier this year when he insinuated that he used steroids.

I hope this isn’t becoming a trend. I realize busting Hudler and Ozzie in the press is a small sample size, so I’ll hope this is not a long term strategy. I quit listening to Ron Wilson years ago because of this crap, and prior to that, I had a fairly high opinion of him as a coach.

This.  And this is why he should go.  That the league has to say anything at all about this—hell, that anyone is saying anything at all about this—is only because all the sayers know that the appearance of impropriety is there without a doubt.  Anyone now has ample and legitimate reason to question Campbell’s integrity.  Integrity and virginity suffer the same fate—once you lose either you don’t really ever get it back.

It shouldn’t matter that he was sending an email he thought was private.  It shouldn’t matter that he was merely “venting,” as he claimed.  It’s too late for those defenses.  It’s too late for all the other claimants who believe they know that he’s above reproach.  The doubt has been established and nothing will make it go away.

But, of course, he will neither go, nor be let go.  As a result, the great sport of hockey acquires a little more tarnish at the hands of those entrusted to protect it.

I don’t think his intent was to trash Ozzie. I think he was insinuating that he didn’t expect him to practice at all, so when he was not there, he didn’t notice.  When I read that quote I thought the same thing, “Oh no, Babs is calling out Ozzie.”  After re-reading it, I realized what he meant.
