A rare, and short, postgame rant. Here goes.
Yes, the Wings win tonite. 6-5 over Vancouver. The six goals against a career backup and his relief? Great. We’ll take it.
The five goals given up by Chris Osgood and a defense that melted away with each passing minute? Absolutely pitiful.
Here’s the bottom line, because we’re all into that here at A2Y: this team will not repeat with that kind of goaltending and that kind of defense. It just won’t.
Great game Monday against Anaheim. Outshot them 3-1. Tonite? Still outshot the Canucks by a wide margin, 38-25. But the collapse…literally, you could see the dmen caving back toward Osgood with each Vancouver rush…was disturbing.
But don’t be so fast. Don’t you do it. Don’t let a soft defense dissuade you from blasting Osgood. Five goals on 25 shots? Short side uncovered. Over a slow glove. A huge, fat rebound. And on and on.
It’s December 4th and there is no chance Detroit repeats with that kind of play in net. Osgood either gets better, or Conklin gets consistent, or one gets waived and we try our hand with…who? Jimmy Howard? Really? I mean, really? No.
Let the wins pile up and watch the save percentage drop like a disgusting stone. Down it goes. 3 goals, 3 goals, 4 goals, 5. Gonna shape it up for the playoffs eh?
And here’s the worst part…almost. All of you, including me, who’ve made a social career of sticking up for Osgood when he’s been called a product of “the system”? Tell me he’s not. Give me something. Anything. I need a bit more ammo because that crap’s coming back soon.
.881 to start the day Ozzie. My simple math says that’s dropping too.
Trouble’s coming, and so’s the stress. Big time.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
