Trade Zadina?

from the Detroit News,

NBC analyst Pierre McGuire said don't be surprised if Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman trades 2018 first-round draft pick Filip Zadina.

McGuire was asked on TSN radio in Ottawa on Thursday if it's too early to consider trading Zadina, who has three goals in 12 games with Detroit's minor-league affiliate in Grand Rapids after scoring 16 goals in 59 games with the Griffins last year.

"It's a fair question to bring up," McGuire said. "When I've watched him play, the one thing that stands out is when the puck is going his way, it's really good. When it's not going his way, it's not so good. He's going to have to find a way to get over that.

"You have to compete without the puck, you gotta want to get it back and you can't quit on plays. That's something I've seen him do when it hasn't gone his way. When it goes his way, he's pretty good. But we'll see. It's pretty early in his career."

So tell me, what type of player would Zadina fetch?

Not much at this point.

Exactly. Why cut ties with a high pick just because he’s not tearing it up in the NHL slightly over a year after being drafted? It’s not like they’re going to trade him for Quinn Hughes or something.

Agreed. The Red Wings would receive nothing for him. Let him develop in G.R. confused

There is absolutely no reason to trade him, unless Yzerman can fleece some other GM in that trade.

This makes no sense and is just Pierre being a weasel wanting to get some name mention/recognition around the Detroit dumpster fire conversation, nothing to see here, carry on.

Since Yzerman made moves to acquire two under-performing former 1st round draft picks in the last two weeks, i find it hard to believe that he’d cut bait on a 1st rounder currently in the system. And he damn sure isn’t going to cut bait and sell low, so I’m not averse to moving anyone for the right return, I don’t see this happening anytime soon.

How about a Zadina trade with Edmonton for the rights to Jesse Puljujarvi….??

Holland drafted him, so it’s only fair that he gets to reap the benefits…..... confused

Ahhh. When did Pierre start covering hockey? By his logic Stevie should have traded away Kucherov(so?) after his first season of like 10 goals.

Pierre needs to stick with Bantum Badmitten coverage.

This is the wrong time to trade guys like Zadina and AA.

Stupid idea coming from an even Stupid Pierre

This crap can only hurt Zadina Did Jesse Puljujarvi leave Europe to play in Mexico?  Good place for this head case.  Nobody wanted him once why not a smaller helmet now.

Cold and flu season in Pierre McGuireVille - grab a hot toddy!
At no point did Pierre say ‘not to be surprised’ if Yzerman traded Zadina. Those appear to be Mr. Kulfan’s words, much more charged than Pierre’s, which basically stopped at ‘it (a trade) is somewhat more likely with a new GM’.
To MC’s point, I would offer that rather than piling on on Detroit’s struggles, as this was an Ottawa-centric feature, this is more of a parochial Tkachuk gloat, as in “ha-ha, we here in Ottawa passed on Zadina but you didn’t”.
I hope that he does one day fill some nets.

DDog, I’d love to see the advanced stats on Huges before desiring that trade. He has a meager 2 full strength points this season. In Detroit he’s got no one worth playing with on the PP.

Agreed on Zadina but do we have a choice on AA? We can’t sign Mantha Bert and AA, and Mantha and AA would yield the highest return.  I’d rather keep Mantha, making AA the trade bait. Unfortunately this is probably the peak of his value, knowing he’s going to hold out as an RFA and/or force arbitration.  At least an acquiring team knows they get AA for at least this run and next year.
