Thanks to the Emperor for covering me the last few LBs, and thanks to all 19 of you for the patience. January was a slow-moving month on America’s Favorite Carrier and I already told you what February has in store for the weak-hearted Wing fan. I warned you. I told you what kind of pain was on the horizon.
And now it’s here. Jimmy says it could be two games but then I read it might be 4 weeks until Jimmy said it was more like two weeks he’s hoping because six weeks sucks the worst kind of ass. Seriously. We’re all dead in six weeks if that’s how long Tiberius Howard is out. Oh, and you want to trade for a backup goalie?
Don’t bother because whoever we get isn’t gonna be good enough to do the job we need done to get what belongs to us. Baby Jesus, that tiny tadpole of love, adores us but even he can’t guarantee or even decree a Cup if we’re down to a backup goalie some shitbag team was willing to deal in February. So…it’s James F. Howard or bust, and I’d prefer me some Jimmy if it’s all the same to you.
Transplants. Transplants galore in Gary’s hometown of Phoenix. They’re running amok, paying outrageous sums, drinking cheap beer and laying waste to the women of Glendale, if they’re single and clean…the transplants, that is.

We don’t need to trade for a backup, we have a good backup. Joey Mac. Conk can hang in the Leino Lounge as far as I’m concerned.

Good day to you Master Chief. Thx for patrolling the waters day in and day out. No FSD tonight SYF, NBC exclusive. Might just be a 2 man team tonight, Strader and doosh canoe in the hole. As for finding a backup goalie, one thing I see will make it a near impossible road. Too much in return. Because of “who we are”, other GM’s will naturally inflate the prices and attempt a pilfering of our cupboards. I say attempt, because I do not believe TickTock will go that far. Joey will simply HAVE to stand up. He has persevered before( I refer you to last year in that home stretch before playoffs). He was accoladed to the sweet sounds of"JO-EY JO-EY”. He wins tonight, and im sure the reward will come back at the Joe. Now whats not to like about that?

I have so much confidence in our goalie tonight that someday in the not-too-distant future they will name the Wings new home the Joey McDonald Arena. Instead of going to games down at the Joe, we’ll be going down to games down at the Joey.

I say grin and bear it until Jimmy returns, just ride Joey Mac until then and then keep him around as a backup. No sense in losing any assets for a backup goalie. And Paul posted a story about Rick Nash’s chances.of being moved seemingly getting better. Im sure the Chief will enjoy that one!

Let’s be very clear regarding the bottom line on Howard:
1. Yes, his broken index finger will not heal for somewhere between 4-6 weeks.
2. However, as soon as the Wings’ doctors clear him to play and Howard can deal with the pain of holding his stick and guiding it with a finger that will sting when he stops shots or plays the puck with a stick that tends to translate said impacts into vibrations…He will be able to play as his pain tolerance and modifications to his sticks and blockers will allow because he cannot re-break his finger.
Howard will be re-evaluted by the team’s doctors tomorrow, and it sounds like he’s going to need to get some practices in where he actually takes shots and gets used to stickhandling before he returns, but he could probably return as early as Friday, and, more realistically, he’ll probably be back on the 14th against Dallas or 17th against Nashville.
That translates into another 4 or 5 games without Howard, tonight’s included, not four-to-six weeks. The honest truth is that goalies have to play through broken fingertips and index fingers on a somewhat regular basis because blockers with adequate finger protection would make it impossible to grip one’s stick, and Howard has stated that he’s played through broken middle/ring/pinky fingers before.
As soon as he can deal with the pain, he’ll be back, and he has at least been skating every day after practice trying out tweaks to his sticks on Saturday and today, so he’s not exactly in so much pain that he can’t even hold onto his stick. He just has to get checked out and deal with stopping pucks and he’ll be able to come back.
The Wings’ doctors are always cautious, but Howard seems to want to push hard to return as soon as he is able, and that should be sooner than later.

I think Conk needs a little more time before we can close the book on him. If that doesn’t work, J Mac didn’t look half bad the other night. Hang in there folks, its gonna get bumpy, but we’ll make it.

I don’t mind Emrick; Strader’s a superb sub. Just get Olcsux off my screen. Hell, I’ll even take Strader’s color man on NBCSN’s “Friday Night Ice,” Ken Hodge.
I think I’ve held on to the faith that Conks is going to have a decent enough season to quell fears about the Wings’ backup goalie position long enough. From various youtube game highlights from the EDM game, JMac looks a lot the guy I thought he would be when he came back to the Organ-I-zation. I’m a little less worried about it…for now.

Evenin’ Bitches. Master Chief, when you’re right, you’re right on. We need James Fuching Howard, but I’m thinking J-Mac can handle the task at hand as long as the rest of the Wings show up.
I don’t think the same can be said aboot the Conk. He’s lack of Conk-fidince is like the flu. Contagious. It spreads to the whole Team.

Going down on Joey? Up in Owosso “Joey” was a slang name you threw at someone you wanted to derogatorily label as a homosexual, or “queer”, if you’re from Saginaw. This derived from noneother than the flaming Joey himself, Joey Shire. No one could even remember how long it had been since Joey Shire had actually attended OJHS or OHS, but rumor in school was he hung out at Jumbo’s Bar, a wretched low class establishment next door to Capitol Bowl, behind the movie theater in West Town, where all the Hoods came from. THE movie theater, remember, this is Owosso. No matter, the legacy of Joey was passed on year after year.
The rise and tragic collapse of Owosso from the 40s to the 90s as an adjunct to Flint and Lansing and representative of the entire rust belt, would actually make a fascinating movie… hilarious and historic, if done properly.
