The Ugly Detroit Red Wings Sweater

Author ranks Wings home sweater as the fifth ugliest in the NHL...

via Nadia Archuleta of Mile High Sticking,

To be fair, there may be a bit of prejudice against this team on this site. Or it could just be that there’s such a thing as too much red. I mean, to start with a predominantly red jersey and place it on top of red pants then have the players wear red stockings and then add to that red gloves and a red helmet — way too much red.

Plus, what’s up with the winged wheel? I know it’s supposed to pay homage to Detroit’s history as a car city. And the wing is there because… they’re the Red Wings, I guess. The design is simply not pleasing — and it looks too much like the Red Wings shoes logo.

To make matters worse, the Detroit Red Wings appear to have been wearing these overly red uniforms since the team’s inception 100 years ago. (I can’t confirm some of the earliest decades because the photos are black and white, but they feel red.) Too much red over the years.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
