The Postman Always Rings Twice

I don't know about you, but I'd rather not hear the doorbell at all tonight.

No mailing it in tonight. No phoning it in. No half-assing it. Every point matters. Two points tonight, boys. Your two points. Our two points.

After tonight, most of you can take it easy for a few weeks... but right now, there's a hockey game to play.

The Stress Train is leaving the station; The Hasek will be fully restocked with various meats, cheeses, liquors, and pets for the coming journey, so all aboard and join us for a Live Blog, Bitches.

All I am rooting for at the Olympics is no injuries to Red Wings.

Wings should feel lucky there’s mandatory time off now, because by all rights Babcock should skate them hard for 10+ hours tomorrow.

I didn’t realize this was on TV until there was a few minutes left…so I turned it on in time to see some sloppy shifts, a really good offensive shift, and those goals…fun.

That dump in by Alfredsson…the Wings have been doing this for years now. They just throw the puck in without any planning. Alfredsson was the only one who had a chance to get to it, and even he didn’t.

Man, I wanted to see something cool happen…I’ve seen so little this season.

I’m with you on that one, dougie.  Of course I’d also like to hope that the Wings take the time off to realize they need to play 60 minute games when they come back from the break to make the playoffs, but I’ve been wishing for regular 60 minute games for 3 or 4 years now to no avail so I’m not holding my breath.

Absolutely DEVASTATING loss.

DET could have moved within 3pts of TB and reeeeeeeeeally made it a dogfight for both #2 and #3 in the Atlantic.  Instead now TB moves 7 ahead to basically an unassailable position, and MTL and TOR are still also 6 pts ahead DET, which isn’t any better.

Which means not only is TB now unassailable, but it’s almost likely fantasy to conceive of DET nabbing anything except the absolute last Wild Card spot in the East., if even that.  And CBS and WAS are only 1 pt in back of DET now for that final spot.

In April, we might be looking at this one loss as when it all ended.  Awesome.

Unassailable with 24 games left, yeah that’s just 48 points.

Don’t know why that double-posted.

Anyhow, 24 games isn’t much.  Not with that Loser Point mucking things up.  7 points is a lot anymore.  It’s much harder to make up a point deficit.

We can stare at this and wonder all of our “What Ifs” for the next two weeks.

“The playoffs start right after the Olympics”, so says Hank Zetterberg.  Some of us thought maybe they should have already started.

So there we are, ripe for the taking.

Hope that Datsyuk is healthy.  If Weiss, Franzen in, then who out?

So I roll into this bar at 2 pm, all self satisfied about working on my day drinking. The last few minutes of the Canuckistan-Murican hockey Olympic game is on the screen, and I could really care less. Early start on a nice weekend. Life is good, no, it’s effing awesome.

Just settling into my first brew, and the crawl at the bottom of the screen says “Zetterman back surgery, will be re-evaluated in 8 weeks.”

Beer does not taste good with strong vomit undertones.
