“Tell Me Quick,” said Old McFee…Tell Me This Team’s Better Than That

Bullet Bob’s back to save us, because the adorable 8 pounder told me he would. Oh, the angst. If you’ve read the comments associated with last night’s Live Blog you know that the pitchforks are out. Heart, passion, give-a-shit…it’s all being questioned today. And the reasons are sound. If Detroit couldn’t get up for last night’s game, what else—short of the playoffs—is going to do the trick?
And where the Hell is Johan Franzen?
Son, you’re a rich man because Tick Tock Kenny Holland made a tough decision two years ago. He essentially chose you over Marian Hossa because you promised us all we’d get consistency. Not consistent awesomeness, just consistent really goodness. We don’t see it Mule. We’re not seeing it and now people are talking about lighting you on fire and putting you on somebody’s porch as a joke, hanging around to see if someone steps on you.
And people are wondering, typing things like the Wings need “fiery leaders” and “passion” and “Tahitian Hookers” and “more hunger”. The 19 are getting restless because losing is one thing, but appearing not to care too much about losing is a whole other deal.
You can blame our Uncle Mike, if you want. And you are. You can wonder what precisely the new assistant coaches are bringing to the table. But I’m getting a bad feeling that if there’s a lack of urgency in that room then the fingers need to be shifted from the guy with the good hair to the Perfect One. Professionalism and quiet confidence, a steady demeanor and leadership by example is all well and good. And that’s cool when it works.
But man, is there anyone wearing red and white who’s just a little pissed off about this whole thing? And if not? Who are the leaders who should be? Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Holmstrom….
Uh oh. Calling Dr. Cherry.
I’m not going anti-Euro on you. But, shit man. Someone needs to get pissed off other than us. Dig it? Like Seger said, all along that fateful coast, we’ve been silent like a ghost. But that silence is getting tougher to maintain. I’m just throwing that out there. Turning this thing into a Ship of Fools will take about one more loss.
It’s a Live Blog and the Hasek’s full.

Even with that break the wings got, the wild score first.

Homer’s skating well. Even after getting hit a couple of times.

Another reason I shouldn’t live blog. Gamecenter must be way behind the TV. I haven’t seen them score yet…

What happened to the team that started the season 5-0? What the heck is this junk? Being outskated by the Wild? C’mon Wings!
Posted by hockeychic from Denver, CO on 10/29/11 at 10:33 PM ET
Have the wings had any offensive pressure yet?
Posted by Bent from The U.P. on 10/29/11 at 10:33 PM ET
Still on commercial break here… Geez.

the shot stat shows 6-4 wild
it seems more like the wild have had about 40 shots on goal already in the first.

I do not even recall DET having even one quality scoring chance.

Maybe they all decided to be zombies for Halloween.
Hey, at least the undead attacked once in a while.

z, dats, homer, mule and lids ... interesting line, 1 D

On the bright side, it could easily be 3-0 Wild.
The waived off goal, and the Latendresse brain cramp.
I think DET have had maybe 2, at most 3, scoring chances.

Thanks Jimmah, for that Save!
Come on WINGS, SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT!
Posted by Little Redhead from the Engineer's chair on 10/29/11 at 10:46 PM ET
Are the Wings intentionally putting their goalies thru shootout practice by giving up all these odd man rushes? And by odd man I mean watching someone going in alone on your goalie.

well, ran out of Old Grand-Dad before the first period was over…
had to break in to the Black Raspberry Chambord.

I’m still convinced it’s a lack of motivation, determination, killer instinct, whatever you want to call it - maybe the better word is focus. We don’t need assistant coaches to teach these guys how to execute. We have a lot of veteran players who know how to win.

Competitiveness - DET needs a leader that hates losing at anything, even tiddlywinks
Posted by Jeff OKWingnut from Quest for 12 on 10/29/11 at 10:59 PM ET
My personal first period highlight was the 1/2 lb. bacon sandwich I just ate.
Posted by dougie on 10/29/11 at 11:02 PM ET
We had 10 shots in the first? It felt like two.
Posted by hockeychic from Denver, CO on 10/29/11 at 11:03 PM ET
I really don’t like saying this, but it is a “honest” observation.
All of DET’s “leaders” are Euro’s. Maybe, because of their “upbringing”, they just don’t have that “hate to lose” mentality.
Just a thought.
DET sure could use a “leader” with hellfire and brimstone.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
