There is no recovery from this. We need to be very clear about that. You need to know that going in. Teams don't recover from losses like...that. Teams don't "bounce back" emotionally. They don't "put it behind them."

They don't. They can't. They will not.

It's important that you breathe and that you simply understand that simple fact.

17 years ago, the shot was going wide. Ridiculous if you choose to remember it. Wide. Why Chris Osgood elected to play it is not the debate. He was young-ish. It was reflect, I guess. But there went his stick, there went the puck, there went the twine. Jamie Langenbrunner had himself a playoff winner and we had a meltdown on our hands.

You don't come back from things like that. Unless, of course, you do.

34.7 seconds. Joe Louis was simply insane. Journey had already played. Bedlam. The little flower had been on the bench for some time. Lidstrom was on the ice. Datsyuk was on the ice. Osgood, again, was in net. My god, the celebration that was so close. So frigging close at hand. And then...Max Talbot happened. Oh, it wouldn't be the last time we heard from him. But there he was. And there it went. In. Then? OT. Sykoura. Over.

You don't find yourselves in workable states of mind after a loss like that, when victory--a Cup for god's sake--was 34.7 seconds away, then lost. You just don't "recover."

Unless, of course, you do.

You don't even feel like watching this game. It's everything we've lamented. It's the canvas on which this blog was truly created. The playoffs are not fun. They are 6 weeks, or two weeks, or four, of absolute torture. Maybe, if you're lucky, you get a few minutes of bliss as thanks for what you put up with. Maybe you get to see a parade. Maybe that parade has fire trucks and buxom hookers, puppies, Charleston Chews and maybe even a Stanley Cup in an American car. Maybe.

The playoffs is nothing but blood sucking, life draining, binge drinking, sanity depriving. It's absolutely disgusting.

And we love it because they can't win tonight. They shouldn't. They can't. They won't.

Until they do.

God help us all.

It's a Live blog you sick bastards. It's a live blog because you can't not watch. You can't stay away. You thought about it but you knew you'd be right here. Right now.

14 to 12.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
