The Wings, appropriately, felt as they let an important point in the standings slip away.

“We played a pretty good game, we gave them a hard game,” said Gustav Nyquist, who had two goals. “A shootout, we had a 4-on-3 chance (power play) in overtime, and shootouts are a coin flip, it can go either way.

“We should have finished this one off.”

What also hurt for the Wings, was a hand injury to defenseman Danny DeKeyser that will keep the defenseman out for “multiple weeks,” coach Jeff Blashill said.

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press,

The embellishment call on Andreas Athanasiou during the third period at Little Caesars Arena rankled the team.

“I thought it was going to be a penalty shot,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “When you are going to go on a breakaway, you don’t dive. No chance.

“He literally was on a breakaway. I don’t know how you dive when you are on a breakaway. I disagreed with the call.” ...

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
