Quick Recap- Wings/Wild

In the first period, Zadina 2, Wild 1.  Nice to see the Wings get the bounces.

In the second period, Wild 3, Wings 0.  After 40 minutes, Minnesota 4, Detroit 2.  Not the best period for the Wings but we have seen it before.

No scoring in the third.  Final 4-2 Minnesota.

Below find the Zadina goals and Detroit stats.

Now it is break time for the Wings, next game is Friday, January 31 at MSG to face the Rangers.

The only way the Wings scored tonight was due to own goals.

Fantastic.

I wonder if we see a new coach installed during this break or it plays out until the end of the season?

Interesting comments last night from the national broadcast that I had not heard before.

They indicated that at Yzerman’s direction, blashill changed his DZone coverage in the middle of the season to more of a press/attack defense, from a box/collapse, something to that effect, because that what he wanted to play.

The problem with that is two fold, 1 you need skilled players to play press or “man” coverage, and 2 this is a young team with plugging pieces in and out, to change the system midstream without offensive talent and a goalie who can stop pucks and erase mistakes is a big ask. That explains the mid season return to getting thumped.

This is not the wrong call by Yzerman by any extent, he wants to see what he has that is capable of playing how he wants, and wants to install the system now, but it has impacted this season, which who cares, we were going to suck anyway.

I also thought I heard them say that he wants the defense to play zone instead of man to man coverage. If so it may explain some horrible blown coverages.  confused
