No Larkin, no Fabbri, Bert and Nielsen done for the year….this is a very nice bounce back game.

May as well prepare to say goodbye to Chevy. Just shy of 12 minutes at even strength, no shots on net.

Shots on goal don’t tell the whole story. They had plenty of shots after we had scored 4..on very little shots. Then we got a few penalties..and they shoot from everywhere.
Don’t have to tell you how Vrana look like tonight. I feel like saying Pavel but i think Vrana can put the puck in the net better than Pav…
Anyways..
On the bad side the juggling of the lines made me sick tonight, suddenly in the second Gagne disappeared..to return sporadically in the third..why ? dunno..In the meantime Nametsnikov took a stupid penalty and never missed a shift. This guy doesn’t look like a team player to me..tonight he look like the only one who wasn’t happy.
On the darker side….Svech ...humm..i feel this is close to end for him..i doubt he will be back next year, its painful sometimes for him.
On defense Staal was again great…and always on the ice !...on the other side Hronek and DK and some trouble on defense..
Panik scored a goal..man did he look happy or not !
Fun game tonight…let see some more of those before the season is over.

And just a quick reminder, we also got a first rounder with Vrana:)

I really wanted Panik to take a run at Comeau… guy is a complete mudhole.

I hope Vrana keeps this up into next season.

DK is so much better when he doesn’t try to join the rush. Sadly, he simply doesn’t have the mobility anymore.

Fun game, good win.

A great game. Man Vrana can score. What a trade by Yzerman. Panik, Vrana, a first round pick this year, and a second round next year. He should have been wearing a mask, but of course we are all wearing them now. LOL

Vrana zadina lookee as good as I hoped.  It was trenchwork sometimes but vrana alone made it a fun watch

Well if Blas can’t keep the lines together in a 7 goal win, the guy is just hopeless!  No hope for him and hopefully no coach job either.

Nicely done, froggie.

I think Vrana with Zadina and Raz is a great combo. That way, Vrana learns what it’s like to play at 100% all of the time, Zadina gets reminded of what a pure goal scorer looks like, and Raz, well, he gets to make smart plays and level a few guys in order to make space for two goal scorers.

At this point, I’ve lost all interest in the Wings getting a top-three pick. Hell, they might actually stand a better chance of getting the #1 pick by ending up in the #5-#8 draft position. For the next few games, let the kids play and have some fun – the outcome be damned.

So, if y’all keeping tabs:

Mantha 5GP 4G 1A 5P (+-) -1
Vrana 4GP 5G 1A 6P (+-) 4

Looking pretty even so far.

But I’m liking the DET haul so far.

PSA on the different line combinations..
It takes 12 forwards to have 4 even lines of 3.
When we dress 11F and 7D we’re short a F and someone has to double shift.
Coming off PP and PKs we also need to mix up the lines.
Until next time friends…

This team looks way better without Larkin out there! tongue wink I am kidding of course.

Fun game. Actually caught me off guard.

Greiss really was outstanding again last night. He had some great saves. The Wings by far had the better starting goalie last night. Man he was fun to watch.

Cholowski had a pretty solid game again. No turnovers and more assertive and aggressive when needed.

Marc Stall has been the rock of the defense this season, but the last two or three games he looks tired. He had two really bad turnovers last night. I love the guy and would not mind him back next season at all. Stall had the highest TOI last night.

Vrana had some nice goals, but the thing it impressed me more was he play without the puck. He had two takeaways (maybe more) that were very Datsyukian. Not comparing the two, but when he did that, I thought the number on his back was 13. Wow, fun shit.

Namestnikov’s (Nasty Cough as Cal calls him) aggressive play that lead to a penalty was warranted IMHO. Dickerson has been taking cheap shots the last few games on the Wings, running the goalie, smacking players ankles behind the play…. Good Job Nasty!!! Someone has to take matters in to their hands with D bags like that. Plus the Wings had 4 goals at the time. Funny thing, Dickerson’s TOI dropped after that.

Fun game. Go Wings!

When all said and done, I expect Mantha to be a more productive player. Partially because he is just a better player (when motivated) and partiality because he is surrounded now with all this talent. But it was not going to happen in Detroit, so this was a good trade for us that could be great if we make the right (lucky?) pick at the end of the first round.

He has been better than Bernier lately making resigning Bernier not a must sign.imo especially if he wants 3 years.

Absolutely agree, great teammate also. The problem is he 34 and might not agree to a 1 year deal. Also we probably forget he is making over $5 mil per year. He will not be making that much on a new deal, but it’s not going to be $2 mil either. Also maybe contract year plays a role on how well he plays.

Namestnikov’s (Nasty Cough as Cal calls him) aggressive play that lead to a penalty was warranted IMHO

Agree here as well. There is no consistency in those call at all.

So Mant’who?  The only downside to this is that Vrana might play himself into a sizable RFA award, which is why Washington made this trade for a more reasonable contract in Mantha.

Svech is not just not gonna make it, damn shame. Maybe he can use this summer to really work on his skating but it just doesn’t look like he’s gonna be an NHL player, not for us anyway.

I think Vrana has the higher skill level and could develop a more impactful complete game.  Hounding guys on the forecheck and snakey steals are things you don’t get with mantha, he needs someone to spark the transition.  Also better and finding soft spots for scoring chances.  Really like Vrana s style of play and skillset.

Staal has been a rock all season.  His ability to impose his strength on guys around the net and in corners is huge.  Add to that good pinches and passing, he’s been a real bright spot.  Love the dude for us.

This is HSJ from a subscription post this morning..

Vrana is a restricted free agent, two years removed from being unrestricted. Yzerman may sign him to a one-year deal, to get more of a feel for Vrana’s commitment to being part of the rebuild.

Sounds like her opinion only, without any insider information.  I am expecting a Mantha type deal for Vrana, not a one-year deal.

imo, wings need a ryan reaves type to keep things grounded - never understood why the pens let him go with all the abuse that sid endures.

q to the board: is givani smith our ryan reaves? or, should we go with “team toughness”?

100%, he can protect and he can play, the kids an important piece of the future of this team.

I doubt Vrana will go for more than $5.7 especially considering he is RFA

An RFA deal for Vrana shouldn’t be too ridiculous, and if he keeps it up, could be an absolute steal for the rebuild.

The only way I’d take Staal back is if DK is gone, or at least gets his minutes reduced significantly.
