Quick Recap- Detroit/Dallas

Wings compete level was much improved over the two games in Chicago but the offense was still lacking.

Detroit should be happy with their effort in a 2-1 OT loss to Dallas.

Detroit's goal is below.

I'll have the post game talk in the morning, time to get some rest.

oh goodie ... I’m the first to comment.
All I’m going to say is….
Mantha better learn how to play defence real quick or he’ll get what Bowman did to Yzerman.

Smith’s pass was a thing of beauty on the Namestnikov goal. He looked more comfortable this game.

The Wings looked better on all the checking zones but still are not taking open shots when they open up and their passing is mediocre.

I am done seeing Neilsen and Fillapillow out there. I rather Hirose and Smith take their spots permanently. Nielsen looks so mechanical out there. Like he is consciously thinking about every movement he makes.

Not a bad game overall. With both teams having Covid players out it was more evenly matched. Advantage still goes to Dallas.

Yes sir, 2-1 loss, defense was pretty tight, and we only gave up a PP goal to a hot PP team, that’s how we need to play, most nights we don’t edge them out, sometimes we do.

Two Mantha plays very telling last night.

First, the kinda 2 on 1, and he tries a less than 50/50 pass, why? Dude your a shooter, shoot, if you want to move the puck over, shoot for the rebound pass off the goalie, it has only slightly less of a chance of connecting than what you sent. Zero confidence.

Later 3rd period about 6 left, he gets into it with someone in front of the net, immediately becomes the player we need him to be, and he caps it off by engaging in a board battle under the red with 2 stars and another over the top, and just holds serve on the puck, while the Wings complete a full change, pinning tired Dallas legs in deep, that’s a mans play, it was the 1st board battle he won all season. Unfortunately we did nothing with it, but those are the plays hungry team players make.

Parting note… Marc Staal mehhhhhh ehhhh. For a trust/steady/crusty vet or whatever you want to call him, he’s not very good at moving the puck and he takes ill advised shots, 2 of which last night that killed momentum building.

This was a lot better than in Chicago. I thought Smith, Stetcher and Mantha had good games. Yes, I think Mantha was engaged and battling hard. Of course Mantha did not cover his man on a game winning goal, but through 60 minutes I thought he was good.
