Abel to Yzerman

Quick Recap- Detroit/Chicago

Pius Suter hat trick for the Blackhawks plus they added three more while Detroit's Tyler Bertuzzi had two goals.

Final- Chicago 6 Detroit 2.

Lack of talent was exposed today and if the Wings continue to play like this, mark it down as another long season.

The older veterans are not adding anything to the game, they just seem to be there.

Detroit goals are below.

We had a decent start, not on the score board but on the ice. But in goal Bernier can’t stop anything, can’t make any key saves, while on the other side that Lankinen sees everything.
The final score would have been different with at least a decent goalie. The players see what we see, they know they don’t have the key saves necessary to win, therefore they become nervous, afraid to make a mistake.

And when you constantly bet on Hronek and Nemeth on key defensive situation you are bound to lose, both were despicable today..but they will be back in the line-up. Hkronek can be bad, it won’t matter our beloved coach won’t see that. If Cholo does one little tiny mistake he is gone to GR.
its time to see Cholo in the line-up and break that infamous duo Hkronek and Nemeth

Its also time to say bye bye to Nielsen and Fil. Both were atrocious today…and our beloved coach gave Fil some PP time late in the game…to thank him !

Like i said mother luck is not with us, think about that Hawks breakaway in the first, when the puck bounce two or three to land right on the Hawks stick..that’s sheer luck !

i even found Djoos to be a bit slow too…i still think Stetcher is our best..but our beloved coach don’t see that because on EVERY PK you see Hkronek and Nemeth…no matter what !

We don’t have any luck, and our confidence is shaky at the moment. And some don’t play with intensity (specially one that i don’t have to give you the name !, finally i think Blashill understood, he didnt play much later), some plays hard all the time, Lil Bert and Brome, even though Brome doesn’t have any respect from the coach…why should he has any ?? he is only a rookie !!

Bottom line we need to work harder than that, its time to dress Cholo,

I don’t think you can lay all the blame on Blashill’s coaching (some not all) , and it certainly doesn’t help when you get effort like Mantha’s today.

Based on his time in Tampa, it’s not like Yzerman to make a knee jerk sort of move. I don’t believe he expected major steps forward this year, but I can’t believe he’s happy with what he’s seen so far?

I’m not sure what the answer is for getting Mantha engaged this year? I don’t think you’d get fair value for him in a trade ( but what’s fair for a guy giving no effort) so that’s probably not the answer.

Firing Blashill in a short season may not really make sense, but maybe a assistant coach shake up (Bylsma ?) to get the special teams looking above a ECHL production rate.

On the bright side, only 50 max left in the season… confused

Hronek is our one offensively capable D
do I’m afraid he’ll be force-fed minutes by default.
I hope the combination of that, lack of support, and losing
don’t warp who he becomes when the talent around him is eventually better.

We expect too much of Nemeth he’s a decent defensive defenseman
- a second pairing type on even a mediocre team. Djoos deserves some
time to get his feet wet in Detroit. But he’s only been a fringe 6-7 type for most
of his young career. When Merrill is healthy, he and Stecher and Staal (at his best)
can help by committee. It was unrealistic to expect we’d see DeKeyser at his peak.
So, collectively, the group is now getting exposed.

Chicago was one team I thought looked worse than Detroit on paper.
But we appear to be the cure for what ailes them and, with a goalie who can
stop some pucks and gain confidence, they may be better than us, even with three of their top offensive players out long-term.

What is wrong with Mantha? Is he just not feeling the covid rules and lack of crowds? No excuse obviously as everyone has to find a way to get their head in the game regardless. Is it his new long-term deal? We needed a breakout, not a regression. Bert looks like our early MVP for a second straight season. Bobby Ryan isn’t going to score goals every single game. We’re badly missing quality depth at forward now, but this should create opportunities for other players. Is anyone other than Brome going to seize it? Good to see some life from and minutes for Hirose.
Wouldn’t have minded seeing Smith send a message. I guess Duncan Keith is league royalty in his own mind. That guy has been a dirty player his whole career and has never to my knowledge been challenged by anyone.

Last thing we need is demoralized, deflated goalies.
Hopefully today was an aberration. Bernier showed lady season he could
play with heart no matter how much the team in front of his struggled.

I don’t understand why Carolina game are postponed and we are playing with 5 players in quarantine.
And after the first shift of the third period (first giving up a puck and then not covering Janmark), I believe Mantha should be in Yzerman office for a serious talk.

Pius Suter was a guy we tried to sign iirc

That’s two goals from Janmark against us now.

Babcock’s personal rehabilitation tour combined with
this game was sort of insult added to injury.
For everything that half sounds like an apology he seems to make
2-3 comments that make it all about him - like he was the victim of his
own behavior. I’m no clinician but that’s very typically narcissistic behavior.
Like how much what he did to Franzen “stung” him.
And what’s this stuff about how any coach who is in the league a while
has players who don’t like him? That’s totally different than taking advantage of
your power to abuse certain guys. Even the more driven abrasive coaches don’t usually have multiple guys coming out with horror stories.

Mantha. What good is a man with his skill when his mindset is not to the level required.  I recall my support for him dwindled after his first 2-3 seasons. I keep wanting more from him but he doesn’t prove that he can someone can you count on regularly. Maybe just a hot streak here and there

The team just sucks. Doesn’t matter who’s coach, or who’s in goal. The defense is all 4-7 level dmen.

Breaking news: Team that wasn’t expected to be very good this year isn’t very good.

I think the team is better than this loss, but only because with guys out they’re back to a one-line team (that Blashill didn’t even use).  Yeah, DET got exposed.  If you can get Fabbri and Zadina back in the lineup the forwards are better, and Merrill back in the defense is better.  Right now though they’re too thin on both ends.

But as PierreC noted above, Bernier was also really bad in net.  He can’t do that if he wants to give DET any chance at all.  Instead the game was about over as quickly as it started.

Hirose was fine (not great, just fine), Smith didn’t seem to do much.

Paul is also right though:  the vets are absolute deadweight on this team.  Fil, Nielsen, Helm, Staal… they’re contributing nothing at all.  Nothing.  Yzerman needs to find a way to be rid of them, and fast.  It’s definitely time for the kids to take over.

I saw people were upset last week about the Pierre LeBrun interview/article and let that go. Took it at face value but thought it was very ball-washy. Then they opened up the coverage with him yesterday and i wanted to mute the TV. This is clearly a well concerted image rehab tour and he can *#$%@& right off. I don’t need to hear how it stung him to hear that former players weren’t happy with him (for mentally abusing them and being by all accounts a huge piece of shit). He’s not sorry about what he did, he’s sorry people found out. I don’t need to see him in any studios or behind any benches. Toronto is still paying him, best thing he could do is donate most of it and go away.

Regarding Babcock, I had to turn it after he was asked about the Marner episode. First words out of his mouth were an an aggressive “It did not happen that way”, as if Marner was lying. Then, as Babcock explained it, ti became apparent that it mostly happened like Marner said it did. At that point, it was clear that this is his way of ducking on any responsibility. Pretty weak.
