Only One Game To Watch Tonight

With the Philadelphia Flyers win in OT today over Pittsburgh, the Columbus Blue Jackets cannot catch them for 3rd in the Metropolitan Division.

So it comes down to this...

If Columbus happens to get just one point tonight, the Wings will need to get two tomorrow afternoon in St. Louis to finish in the first wild card spot.

If Columbus losses in regulation to Florida, the Wings will need at least one point tomorrow.

Columbus holds the ROW tie-breaker so Detroit needs to finish at least a point ahead of them in order to hold the first wild card spot.

If the Wings do finish in the first wild card spot, it will be Detroit playing Pittsburgh in the opening round.

After watching today’s Pitt/Philly game I definitely would prefer a match-up with the Pens. A 7-game series between Detroit and Pittsburgh would basically just come down to which goalie can allow the fewest soft goals.

Columbus scores 47 seconds into the game.

Guess they also would prefer Pittsburgh.

But, remember, only we are anxious about it. I think the Wings locker room is all about proving themselves against whoever. And, since I think Boston could be there at the end anyway, I don’t necessarily. feel bad about playing them early rather than late.

Oh, and you don’t have to watch scores. You can see Minnesota punish Union in the NCAA final on ESPN.

I guess the Red Wings can pick their poison.  Pittsburgh gets the calls in close games against the Red Wings, but are soft defensively. Boston is big and SLOW, but will physically punish you. Again the Red Wings did beat Boston 3 of 4 games during the season, but we all know the playoffs are a totally different kind of season. The Red Wings and Howard have to play better defensively no matter who they play to have any chance of advancing.

Can we just call up the rest of the Griffins now for tomorrow’s game?

Well great season everyone.  If we win one playoff game, I’ll be happy.  At least the streak is alive.

Wings played well against Boston all season - chill out.  No matter who they play it won’t be easy.
