Notes Before The Wings Meet The Ducks Tonight

01/15/2019 at 2:12pm EST

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Danny DeKeyser will be back in the Red Wings' lineup Tuesday against Anaheim.

Who, eventually, sits, or maybe gets sent back to Grand Rapids — that would be Filip Hronek, in that likely scenario — remains to be seen.

The Wings bought a bit of time on the entire issue when forward Michael Rasmussen was put on the short-term injured list.

But with DeKeyser — returning after missing six weeks because of a wrist injury — Dennis Cholowski, Jonathan Ericsson, Mike Green, Hronek, Nick Jensen and Niklas Kronwall all available (Trevor Daley (foot) is still a few weeks away), there’s a glut of defensemen.

Coach Jeff Blashill wouldn’t speculate as to whether he’d dress six or seven defensemen against the Ducks.

from Kyle Shohara of AnaheimDucks.com,

Tonight's contest marks the second stop on Anaheim's five-game road trip and the season series finale against the Red Wings. The Ducks enter the game with a 28-46-12 all-time record against the Red Wings, including a 7-27-8 mark in Detroit. Anaheim has won two straight games and three of the last four against Detroit (3-0-1). Though their all-time road mark against the Wings isn't pretty, the Ducks have won four of their last six in the Motor City (4-2-0) dating to Feb. 15, 2013. Ryan Getzlaf leads active Ducks in career scoring vs. Detroit with 41 points (11g/30a) in 38 games, including seven points (2g/5a) in his last seven. Since Adam Henrique joined the Ducks in November 2017, he has points in all three games against Detroit (1g/2a).

The Red Wings enter tonight's game with a 2-6-2 mark over their last 10 games, but ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory in Minnesota on Saturday. They currently sit in seventh place in the Atlantic Division with a 17-23-7 record and 41 points. Dylan Larkin leads the team with 44 points (18g/26a) and recently had a 14-game point streak from December 4-31, which placed him in a tie for the second-longest point streak in the NHL this season and the third-longest by any Red Wing since 1995-96. Only Henrik Zetterberg (17 games, Oct. 3, 2007-Nov. 11, 2007) and Steve Yzerman (16 games, Feb. 10, 1996-March 12, 1996) had longer point streaks.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
