No Vacationing Allowed While In Florida

Two more points on the table tonight, Datsyuk returns, Jimmy in net and Babcock has mentioned he plans to use four forwards on the PP.

Everything is good and let's keep it that way.

Five out of six points the last three games so no need to let it all slip away now.

Olympics are on the horizon, but Sochi can wait.

Win tonight in Sunrise and we will worry about Tampa tomorrow.

It's a busy night for me, trade watch is on until 3:00pm ET tomorrow.

With that...

It's a live blog bitches.

Good for her.  Would have been a fun game in person.  Is her friend into hockey as well, or just being a good buddy ?

He is a fan, but of Chicago where his dad is from.  Ugh.  I bought him a blackhawks polo shirt for christmas, and then took a shower .

You should have taken a shower with the shirt and then give it to him.  I’m sure he’d understand.

These games are frustrating.

FLA is bad.  DET struggled to basically win 2-1, Lashoff EN goal aside.  I thought Thomas played fine but not super or anything.  I know DET managed a good amount of shots.

It’s that nagging feeling that “Yup, this really is the team doing everything it can”...

Caught up with the highlights on XBL (and waiting on awood’s forever uber-awesome extended highlight vids).  The LB sounded like diamonds were shat for about the whole game.  Definitely needed this win.  OUR two points was well earned.

Do it again against the Bolts, Wings.

Buffalo GM has stated any player on his team is tradeable. Looking forward to seeing where Michigan boy Ryan Miller lands though he wants a west coast team where his family is now but good luck getting a job in land of Quick, Niemi, Luongo and Hiller.

Nor PHX and Mike Smith.  If I had my druthers, I’d trade Miller for Smith since the Sabres are clearly rebuilding and the Phoenippeg Jetotes are in the hunt for a wild card spot.  Plus the name recognition could get more fans into Glendale.

Seems like just yesterday, or April, that Captain Hank Zetterberg lead his team into the Night of the Living Dead, three teams would go in, only two would come out alive.

Here is a quick introduction to the Peloton of Suck for 2014.  Let’s look at the Eastern Conference for a change.  This narrows in on the, well, Peloton of Suck, and only for the last 10 or 12 games.  I may throw in one for the entire season, tiny details and all.

More playoff positions will be locked in by Division standing compared to last year, so only 2 playoff positions will be open for Wild Card teams.  New York and Philly are sitting in automatic qualifier positions, niftily highlighted in green, although 3 points below Toronto, a Wild Card team, highlighted in yellow.

More graphic shenanigans will follow, as we will have 2 weeks of no movement in the POS during the Olympic break.

NOTE:  I have always tried to color code the lines and symbols closely to the team colors.  This may take a little adjustment as so many teams in the East really, really, like red, blue, and white.  I’m working on the different shapes and colors.  Keep checking the Legend.

Not where they are in the standings, but are they hot or cold over the last 10 games????

Moving Average of Points earned over the previous 10 games.  10 game moving average, game 10 through games completed Feb 6.

Montreal got hot half way through, cooled off considerably.
Detroit was quite consistently good through game 34, chalking up 55%-70% of possible points, hit a horrible rut games 36 - 50, playing .400 and losing a lot of ground.  Care to guess what happened during that time?

Games 35-45 was absolute suckage, Bill, and just look at the teams above that period of time.  Hell, BUF was doing better than the Wings.

awood has delivered.  14-minute extended highlights vid of the game against the Cats.  It’s glorious as it’s also the FSD feed.

I bow, awood.

Crap, you’re right, worst team in the Atlantic Division for that stretch.

RWBill that’s depressing, that second chart.

That means DET’s 3rd-best in the division last 10 games…. and yet is still just only clinging to a Wild Card.  That’s how much work is yet to be done.

That’s a fact !

Now add that three competing teams, NYR, NJD, and Carolina all added 2 points last night.

The only good news from last night’s games is that Columbus had a chance to jump Detroit but lost in regulation.

Because there are 3 guaranteed playoff spots in each Division, there are 7 teams closely competing for 2 wild card positions.

In previous seasons it was much easier to qualify as a Wild Card team.

Who will crack and drop off the pace, and when?  Can Detroit run off a .750 - .800 streak and position comfortably in the automatic qualifying Top 3?  Neither of those is likely, this will be nip and tuck after the Olympics from the 3/4 pole to the finish line.

Ready.  Set.  Vomit.
