Merry Christmas. Now Sell It All.

I read Custance's deal today, as most of you did.

There may be a path to get there without completely tearing things down and ruining the winning culture in Detroit that has taken years to develop.

Read it all at the link above. That line especially stuck out to me.

That winning culture has diminished the last four years. In fact, it's an outright lie now.

There is no winning culture in Detroit. There is a history of winning, but it's not a culture.

The culture created and allowed to fester by Ken Holland is an acceptance of mediocrity.

Sell anyone but AA and Larkin.

Rebuild and start over. We can take it.

Meanwhile, it's a Live Blog, bitches.

LGRW. Still and always. LGRW.

[strong]Merry Christmas. Now Sell It All.

I think most of the regulars here tend to agree.

Unfortunately, Kenny needs something to sell , and a buyer.

Beyond Vanek and maybe Mrazek ....not much to sell. I think giving Mantha away too cheap would be a mistake.

Underperforming small wingers aren’t gonna bring much, not are overpaid underperforming bigger bodies.  shut eye  sick

Merry Christmas to the 19.  May you and your loved ones be safe and warm throughout the Holiday Season.

It’s a great night for a hockey game.  L.G.R.W.

Kenny doesn’t need a buyer to make the obviously necessary coaching change.

I am not convinced Kenny needs to go, but the fact that Blashill is still here is surprising, and if he’s still here in 3 weeks then its negligence and would be the final proof for me that it is time for him to go as well.

I never really paid attention to the term, conditions, and salary of individual team members before.  Never really interested in that aspect of the game…  The Wings went out and won, or at least competed strongly, and as a fan, my interest really doesn’t go towards the in-the-weeds contract data - more intrigued by how the players play the game.

But now I just looked at the Wings cap situation, and I’m ill.  The only players with some form of no trade clause appear to Zetterberg ($6.08M thru 2021), Nyquist ($4.75 thru 2019), and DeKeyser ($5M thru 2022).  Everyone else seems to have some kind of movement protection, or salaries/term so inconsequential that trading them away and picking a new player would essentially be a wash, with minimal impact to the Wings overall cap.  And apparently we have the highest (ignoring LTIR impacts) team salary in the NHL?

Someone is going to have to explain to me what kind of “sellers” the Wings can really be, unless those with NTCs really want to get out of Detroit and are willing to waive.  And if that’s the case, who’s going to want to come to Detroit anytime soon after a fire-sale, unless it’s free agents just looking for over priced contracts and term to ride out their careers, rather than a sporting chance at a cup?  And the pool of quality free agents the last number of years has been shallow, to say the least.

Mind you, I’m not suggesting that “stay the course” is a great strategy, either.

Looking for a silver lining here…

Sell anyone but AA and Larkin.

I’d add Mantha to that list unless he’s part of a package that has a top d-man coming back. And I also think that one of Howard, Mrazek and Coreau would have to be retained.

But as someone said the other day, I really don’t want Holland making any trades because he sucks at it. Any trade he makes will probably hurt the Wings more than it helps them.

Alright, let’s get this out of the way right away:

Princess Leia’s brother (her real one, not Luke) (was that Luke part a Spoiler for anyone?) said she’s out of the Emergency Room and has been upgraded to “Stable”.  2016 has taken enough, it looks like it won’t be taking her!

I second Cal’s merry Christmas to all the 19.
This ongoing road trip should be the telling tale of this team’s expectations. If things remain the same, then Spuddy needs to be summoned. If he’s up to the challenge that is.. LGRW

The silver lining is this season there won’t be anything to get stressed about after April.  At least not until July 1st

Hey, at least we don’t have to sit through an impromptu ceremony celebrating Jagr moving into #2 all time, since he was kind enough to do that yesterday.
