Ken Holland: Fooling Wing Fans Since 28 February

Oh, the laughs. The joke’s been on us since the deadline. All that money to spend. Glaring deficiencies to correct. Talent to be had. Draft picks to deal.
And our big pickup sat up in the press box for the season’s biggest game to date. That’s your review of Friday and of every day since Tick Tock Kenny Holland decided the Wings were good enough “as is”.
Injuries happen. They always have and we seem to get the worst of it. That’s just our life as we know it. And it’s acceptable when you consider the successes we’ve enjoyed over the years. Officiating’s screwed us more than other teams and that’s also life when your team refuses to yield to the wishes of a shrew commissioner who feels his legacy lies with the likes of Rosby and Kane.
We’re looking at something more sinister right now though, and that’s a shitshow of the Wings’ own making. Institutional malaise that starts with the GM has filtered to the coaching staff and seeped into a locker room that finds itself unable or unwilling to make the effort required to compete when home ice is on the line. As we’ve said, and will always say, the talent is there and the Cup is theirs if they want it. It really is. It’s there for a team with the kind of heart Kris Draper had or Steve Yzerman had, or Brendan Shanahan. Brent Gilchrist had that kind of heart. Remember? The Cup is right there for the team that’s willing to put in two months of the hardest kind of hockey work.
Four more games and we’ll see if everything we’ve suffered through since mid-February has been nothing but a farce. A sick joke we can shake off when the “switch” is thrown in a couple weeks.
It’s disgusting how bleak we’ve become since the home-ice streak ended like five years ago. I can’t even remember the kind of arrogance we enjoyed back in December and January. It can come back, but man it’s looking like a mirage right about now.
And so, Kenny, happy April Fool’s Day. All that money to spend and the joke’s on us with four games left.
It’s a Live Blog bitches and you have my apologies for the tone. Voox: line ‘em up and keep ‘em coming.

I can’t believe I’m gonna say this… but I miss Sammy.
At least that Fucher wouldn’t hesitate to shoot.
No telling where it would go.
No - -we don’t need no stinking lead

That’s what I miss. Although his errant shots used to drive me crazy, I miss having someone that would fuching shoot.
That was horrible call against FL.

Whatever material it is that repels the puck.

Okay, I lied about having zero expectations. I actually DID expect this part.
Posted by WestWing from Portland, Oregon on 04/01/12 at 06:48 PM ET

How many times is a puck going to go right by Emmerton, to an opponent, then right into the net?
Every game
Posted by SolidTG7 on 04/01/12 at 06:49 PM ET

RW, looked like it went off his glove then behind and in to the far side of the net.

Emmerton’s play lately is going to put him squarely in the press box once the playoffs start.

Yawn. Wake me up when the Red wings show up.

In the spirit of this FacePalm Sunday, the Wings will Passover 4th and 5th positions.
Posted by RWBill on 04/01/12 at 06:58 PM ET

Michael Ryder, good size, good skater, great shot, right-handed shot, good two-way player who goes to the net…
Signed as a free agent by Dallas this past summer for a very reasonable and cap-friendly $3.5mil. over three years, has 35 goals, and a +20 so far this season.
Oh right, there were no quality free agents available who wouldn’t have completely mortgaged our future. Glad we spent that money on Ericsson instead. I’m sure Kenny kicked his tires though.

Afternoon ladies and gents.
Not liking what Quincey’s done thus far in this game. He had a bad missed hold in with around 3 minutes left, and his penalty was freaking idiotic. Mickey missed the part where he just stupidly shoved Kopecky down to the ice with the puck nowhere in sight, retaliating about something.
I didn’t like Howard either on the goal. It looked to me like he was trying to make a quick play, like catch the puck and immediately throw it to a teammate. Just block the puck Jimmah, don’t get fancy like the blowhards in front of you.

Getting through the low cycle can literally take decades (see Islanders). Ironically, cap salary and parity may help shorten this.

This should be the Wings fan motto these days.
Posted by SolidTG7 on 04/01/12 at 07:05 PM ET

Hey Wings. Remember how Florida worked the puck around so quickly to generate a one-timer in the slot that rang off the post? Do that, except replace post with twine.

I think that’s called “flailing.” Tends to happen when your team leaves you hanging.
