Ken Holland: Fooling Wing Fans Since 28 February

Oh, the laughs. The joke’s been on us since the deadline. All that money to spend. Glaring deficiencies to correct. Talent to be had. Draft picks to deal.
And our big pickup sat up in the press box for the season’s biggest game to date. That’s your review of Friday and of every day since Tick Tock Kenny Holland decided the Wings were good enough “as is”.
Injuries happen. They always have and we seem to get the worst of it. That’s just our life as we know it. And it’s acceptable when you consider the successes we’ve enjoyed over the years. Officiating’s screwed us more than other teams and that’s also life when your team refuses to yield to the wishes of a shrew commissioner who feels his legacy lies with the likes of Rosby and Kane.
We’re looking at something more sinister right now though, and that’s a shitshow of the Wings’ own making. Institutional malaise that starts with the GM has filtered to the coaching staff and seeped into a locker room that finds itself unable or unwilling to make the effort required to compete when home ice is on the line. As we’ve said, and will always say, the talent is there and the Cup is theirs if they want it. It really is. It’s there for a team with the kind of heart Kris Draper had or Steve Yzerman had, or Brendan Shanahan. Brent Gilchrist had that kind of heart. Remember? The Cup is right there for the team that’s willing to put in two months of the hardest kind of hockey work.
Four more games and we’ll see if everything we’ve suffered through since mid-February has been nothing but a farce. A sick joke we can shake off when the “switch” is thrown in a couple weeks.
It’s disgusting how bleak we’ve become since the home-ice streak ended like five years ago. I can’t even remember the kind of arrogance we enjoyed back in December and January. It can come back, but man it’s looking like a mirage right about now.
And so, Kenny, happy April Fool’s Day. All that money to spend and the joke’s on us with four games left.
It’s a Live Blog bitches and you have my apologies for the tone. Voox: line ‘em up and keep ‘em coming.

Is White seriously a healthy scratch? What the fuch for? I’m missing something.
I dont get it either. Sure he’s no Rafalski, but he’s better than whoever your 3rd pairing is. Maintenance day?
Posted by Nate A from Detroit-ish on 04/01/12 at 06:22 PM ET
The turnover per dollar ratio is about the same, but only because of the Jonny’s fat contract.

Fuch it, I got that all backwards. Nevermind. Pass the gin.
Posted by WestWing from Portland, Oregon on 04/01/12 at 06:22 PM ET
Thats a tough call there. Geebuz

I think we discussed this last game. I think we decided that White is either a poor man’s Jonathan Ericsson or Ericsson is a rich man’s Ian White. The turnover per dollar ration is about the same, but only because of the Jonny’s fat contract.
Posted by WestWing from Portland, Oregon on 04/01/12 at 04:19 PM ET
This might make me unpopular, but if this is the reason that he is a healthy scratch, after Johnny has been an absolute turnover machine for a couple of year… then fuch Babcock.
Posted by ITDeuce from The Land of Ice and Snow on 04/01/12 at 06:23 PM ET
that wasn’t called interference back when interference was being called.

Lesson learned in the first period, when you are touched by an opposing player and begin to regain your balance, fall down.

Kalng. Ugly PK, surviving on luck alone.

It’s got to be a maintenance day. That’s what I’m thinking.

Kindling playing on the PK. Holy Hell.

Miller got his money’s worth on that one.

Miller wants to be an execitioneer - - wow

Jesus Miller…. Murphy with no mercy on the Opening Day joke.

And now that there’s an actual penalty that has to be called Detroit’s stuck on back to back PK’s.
Posted by Valek on 04/01/12 at 06:26 PM ET
Maybe that block will knock Cleary’s knee back into place.

Is it me or is Murph wasted on a Sunday afternoon?

Wings easing into the game. No sense burning yourselves out with a fast start.
Posted by WestWing from Portland, Oregon on 04/01/12 at 06:36 PM ET
14 L TOMAS FLEISCHMANN
18 C SHAWN MATTHIAS
26 R MIKAEL SAMUELSSON
82 R TOMAS KOPECKY
Cats have many former RW players or picks in this game.

You say that like being wasted on a Sunday afternoon is a bad thing.

Somehow, the games are getting less and less entertaining to watch lately. Like I can’t believe how disinterested I’ve been. Was super fired up for Friday’s night game, and was so supremely let down.
Atta boy, Johnny. Man-handle that fucher.
Posted by ITDeuce from The Land of Ice and Snow on 04/01/12 at 06:39 PM ET
I can’t believe I’m gonna say this… but I miss Sammy.

Stuart with another solid play leading to an odd man break…..Maybe he should get the healthy scratch next game.
Posted by Valek on 04/01/12 at 06:40 PM ET
Wow, Stuart and Kronwall giving up a two on one that hardly ever happens…......
more than three or four times a game.
Posted by WestWing from Portland, Oregon on 04/01/12 at 06:41 PM ET
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Fuch it.

At least that Fucher wouldn’t hesitate to shoot.
No telling where it would go.
No - -we don’t need no stinking lead

4th line gives one up. Not good coverage by the fowards, specifically 48

How many times is a puck going to go right by Emmerton, to an opponent, then right into the net?
Posted by Valek on 04/01/12 at 06:42 PM ET
Jonny makes a good screen.
