Ken Holland: Fooling Wing Fans Since 28 February

Oh, the laughs. The joke’s been on us since the deadline.  All that money to spend.  Glaring deficiencies to correct. Talent to be had.  Draft picks to deal.

And our big pickup sat up in the press box for the season’s biggest game to date.  That’s your review of Friday and of every day since Tick Tock Kenny Holland decided the Wings were good enough “as is”.

Injuries happen. They always have and we seem to get the worst of it.  That’s just our life as we know it.  And it’s acceptable when you consider the successes we’ve enjoyed over the years.  Officiating’s screwed us more than other teams and that’s also life when your team refuses to yield to the wishes of a shrew commissioner who feels his legacy lies with the likes of Rosby and Kane.

We’re looking at something more sinister right now though, and that’s a shitshow of the Wings’ own making.  Institutional malaise that starts with the GM has filtered to the coaching staff and seeped into a locker room that finds itself unable or unwilling to make the effort required to compete when home ice is on the line.  As we’ve said, and will always say, the talent is there and the Cup is theirs if they want it.  It really is.  It’s there for a team with the kind of heart Kris Draper had or Steve Yzerman had, or Brendan Shanahan.  Brent Gilchrist had that kind of heart. Remember? The Cup is right there for the team that’s willing to put in two months of the hardest kind of hockey work.

Four more games and we’ll see if everything we’ve suffered through since mid-February has been nothing but a farce.  A sick joke we can shake off when the “switch” is thrown in a couple weeks.

It’s disgusting how bleak we’ve become since the home-ice streak ended like five years ago.  I can’t even remember the kind of arrogance we enjoyed back in December and January.  It can come back, but man it’s looking like a mirage right about now.

And so, Kenny, happy April Fool’s Day.  All that money to spend and the joke’s on us with four games left.

It’s a Live Blog bitches and you have my apologies for the tone.  Voox: line ‘em up and keep ‘em coming.

Hey, does anyone know when Eaves is supposed to come back?  Or is he done for the year?

Posted by ITDeuce from The Land of Ice and Snow on 04/01/12 at 05:19 PM ET

Eaves prolly out for the year.
//sigh//
the jaw has healed but he is still having ‘concussion-like symptoms’

Florida player involved in knocking the net off, so they get an advantage of trying to get 6 skaters on the ice?  That rule needs to be looked at.

The trailing ref should just put the damn thing back on.  That’d pretty much end any thought the goalie might have of leaving his position.

Yes, giving the refs more responsibility seems like a good idea.  They’re so competent with everything they’re supposed to be doing right now.

After 40 minutes - - I’ll say this; it doesn’t matter who DET plays in Rd1 or where it starts - - DET have little chance of winning that series.

Fuch Uncle Mike and his stupid plan. The plan is not panning, so, change the fuching plan and get Moose off the first line.

I truly wish The Serial Killer would beat the living shit out of Franzen in the locker room.

Franzen has to know he sucks. How could he not know he sucks?

I’m gonna have to disagree with this.  I’m pretty sure they could take Columbus in seven.  Provided of course the seventh game is on home ice.

They should make a 73 pinto shooting pucks weakly at a net with Howard in it, and then Howard saying “Mule is in trouble”.

I found stat on that. He is 34 years old and had 7 career SO. It happens approx. once every two years for him. So he is working on something big right now.

He knows, but he just doesn’t care. That’s a big problem with this team right now. I swear half of them have travel plans for the third week of April, and are not about to let something as burdensome as the Stanley Cup Playoffs get in the way of a vacation.

Spot on. KH said “Wings have as much chance at SCup as any team”. He probably meant Columbus.

It’s what I’ve been saying since January.  This team does not have a killer instinct.. it does not attack…  you can clearly see not everyone is on the same page.

I can’t help but think Uncle Mikes self-help philosphy book writing fueng shuey practices might have something to do with it, but also the new coaches.

I was excited for them, but clearly things are not gelling.  It’s been a full season and the same issues ALL season.. all season.

Also the leadership in the room needs to look in the mirror and not worry about leading by stats, but lead by character.  Force the team to engage.

I garauntee if someone got jumped on the ice on the Wings, you’d only see people holding others back.  I don’t think people on this team play for eachother at all.  There’s a handful, Helmers, MILLER big time, of course James and TPH.  Pavel.

I think Kenny’s real master plan is do good enough to get Lidas back next year and keep all this cap space open so you can trade for Parise’s rights at the draft ahead of FA and lock him up… cause if not, epic epic epic fail.  part of being a great GM is making things happen, not just waiting things out.
