Jeff Blashill On Michael Rasmussen

from Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News,

Rasmussen, 21, has three points (all assists) in 10 games with the Wings this season. He's had two different stays between seven games in Grand Rapids, where Rasmussen has two goals and four assists.

Coach Jeff Blashill has noticed Rasmussen, the Wings’ 2017 first-round pick, is playing with a bit more confidence this time in the lineup.

“He’s playing quicker, and that was clear the last couple of games we played,” Blashill said. “Is that because of an actual physical element or confidence? I can’t answer that. Both play into it. He’s worked hard at his skating through the course of the summer, but when he was up the first time (this season) the processing wasn’t quite quick enough making decisions and with the puck.

“Since he’s been back, he’s played way quicker and I would attribute most of that to confidence. He put a lot of pressure on himself early and that can happen sometimes. You just have to play and go for it as if you have nothing to lose and he certainly has had that attitude since coming back.”

Ras-Brome-Svech could be a legitimate third or hopefully 4th line next season.

Time to start bringing the younger players into the lineup. The team isn’t going anywhere, so do it now. confused

I won’t be surprised if we see Neilsen and Flip in the line up again as the wings need to showcase any vets they want to trade at the deadline coming up. Sell everyone. The players to build around are not here yet.

Yzerman knows he’s not getting anything for Neilsen or Flip, he would have to give something to get rid of them.

He’s likely holding out hope on Gagner tho

Probably not for Neilsen because he still has one more year after this but Flip is a ufa after this year if I remember correctly. They will likely play the kids more after the deadline unless it makes them open to the expansion draft. And you never know with injuries and cap limitations Flip might be the perfect piece of depth for a cup team.

The faceoffs are going to be a big deal in where Rasmussen ends up playing
most of his shifts. It’s going to be a major challenge for Veleno as well.

It’s a major part of why Roslovic and Texier
aren’t quite ready to be frontline centers for CBJ
and why it hurt so much to lose Dubois, have Domi struggle so much
and then have Koivu decide to retire.

They have to keep plugging guys like Jenner and even Foligno
into the middle or, as a team that already struggles to score, they end up
with the puck even less.

Yzerman waived Filupulla about a week or two ago, no takers for free, now that would assume his contract, still even with Yzerman eating some of it, why pay anything for value for a player you could’ve had for free.  At best its a meaningless 6th round pick to shore up someone’s taxi squad./

this seems like the most repeated line for 3 years bf, but they keep throwing out a hodgepodge.  they must really have little confidence in the development of their draft picks.

Given his size, I thought Rasmussen might be the legitimate heir to Tomas Holmstrom, the greatest net front presence ever.  Clearly, that hasn’t come to pass.  Nonetheless, I still think that’s when he can do the most damage.  I wish the team would just start giving guys like Ras legitimate ice time to see what they’re made of.  Lord knows, the Wings are going nowhere.  What do you have to lose?

Kenny managed to trade someone at the deadline or close to it after something similar but I don’t remember who it was. I am thinking maybe Kindl but anyway. Ott maybe?

Maybe its me just wanting extra picks. The Wings don’t want to go on a winning streak now anyway.

Ras is looking better this year and is better on his feet in years past. He doesn’t fall over as much when hit like in previous years. Taller players take longer to get the coordination and strength. It seems like I remember Primeau having the same issue when he was with the wings. He started jumping rope and that helped his balance and footwork. He eventually got even better playing with the Flyers. It just took more time.

I think the more they play, the less chances to trade them. But in any case, I just don’t see any playoff team having any sort of need that either player fills.

The main purpose of a 6-7th round pick seems to be
to take an extra shot at a goalie.

Gylander was a 7th and is off to a pretty decent start in college.
And Brattstrom was a 6th and might become a backup level player.

Actually Larssson was a 6th too a couple years further back, though
of course that doesn’t seem like such a coup these days.

And even further back or course Mrazek was a 5th
(Don’t throw things at me - I know Mrazek is divisive on this board lol).

Flip just got put on the taxi squad so i stand corrected for now. I think he will be back however.
