It’s A Perfect Human Kind Of Day

Paul here in for IwoCPO who told me he probably would not have internet access until Monday.

The Wings face the Sharks today, who are in the midst of a nine game road trip, (they are 1-2-1 so far) and won’t be back home until February 28th.

We do know San Jose has had Detroit’s number lately and the Wings sure want to get that fixed before the playofffs start.

I look for a high scoring game and have a gut feeling Detroit comes out on top.

Detroit will depend on Lidstrom today for their 23 (2+3=5 or TPH) consecutive home win.

It’s a Live Blog, bit****.

Another solid february LB. Nicely done fellas (and gals).

The opening line on the NHL.com recap:
If you can’t beat them, shoot the puck right at them and see if that works....

because the Wings weren’t winning at that point?

“Marleau cut it to 3-2 late in the third, but Detroit found a way to hang on for the win again.

We’ve been founding a way for hanging on for 23 record wins according to NHL.com

Looking at the standings, I sure hope we can stay #1 in the division and let those 3 a**holes battle it out for 4, 5, and 6 or 7.  Let them beat each other up in the first round too.  I’d much rather play Calgary or Dallas or LA Kings in the first round than either StL or Nashville or Chicago in a 4 v 5.

JMac has been unreal:  6-1-1, 1.66 GAA, 0.934 Save%

That would be #2 in GAA, and 3rd in Save%, if he had enough starts.

Now who is channeling their inner Eeyore, or just stating the facts? wink

There is something about this team that I can’t put my finger on. I should be overjoyed that they have the record home winning streak, the best record in the league, the best goaltending tandem in the league, etc. But it doesn’t feel like the Wings are as dominant of a team as those things indicate.

Their road record is .500 (technically 1pt above), their PP% is 17.5%, and their PK% is 81.4%. Those aren’t the kind of numbers that Stanley Cup Champions, or even winners of that POS-trophy-that-no-one-wants-to-touch, put up. It seems like their road play has improved, but their last 10 on the road were 5-4-1, or 1pt over .500. The PK% over the last 10 is also at about the season average, 28-34, 82.3%. But the PP% over the last 10 games is getting worse, 5-39, 12.8%.

I really want to revel in the Wings success, but those road and special teams numbers have me in full Eeyore mode, passed out on the Hasek, about to be covered in my own puke.

Ok so now that I’m awake I can elaborate.  Little old lady with mild dementia heading off to her daughters on Saturday morning never made it.

We’ve had a rash of those here in ND lately so we’ve actually gotten pretty skilled at figuring out where they may wind up.  Usually it’s a case of taking a wrong turn and not recognizing it and winding up out in the middle of nowhere…which here in ND is pretty much everywhere.

Turns out that’s pretty much what it was.  She turned left instead of right and got lost.  When she realized she was lost she didn’t know how to get back so she just stopped.  Usually in these cases they drive until they run out of gas and are WAAAY out of our search area when they’re found.

We saw her car sitting in the entrance to a field. Orbited a couple times and dropped to confirm the license plate.  While we were down low, my observer was able to see for sure that she was inside and waving at us.  Took about 40 minutes for the sheriff to show so we spent the time flying cirlces around her and letting her know she was found.  Sheriff said she was in good spirits but REALLY hungry.

All in all it was worth missing the game for.
