Not unlike Mitch Albom, Damien Cox, has parlayed his middling sports journalism career into a political pulpit. Best comment regarding Cox's (not the common, plural noun of his name, thank you) foray into U.S. politics?

I’m not going to political forums to see what they think about the Red Wings powerplay woes, and I’m not seeking out hockey pundits’ opinions to see what the president elect should be doing about filling his cabinet posts.

Exactly.

I also learned that it's a hard league. It's a hard league to trade in, win in, survive in, but not to keep a job in. It's not that hard to stay employed when you're Ken Holland. It's downright simple. Do nothing. Literally nothing. Bring in a few over-priced, aging free agents who will, maybe, help you get an 8 seed. Ripen the kids. Refuse to move up and let the hungry legend who actually has goals beyond a first round exit, leave. Fall so far behind the times that we are honestly believing the pharmacists from close to a decade ago who scorned us when we slobbered all over you. Remember them? Remember the dumb guys who said Holland's success was simply a product of inheriting incredible talent acquired or bought with Ilitch money and Bowman/Jimmy D smarts? Remember our reaction?

Disdain. Anger. Angst. Alcohol.

I have exactly zero faith this guy can do a single thing to improve this team in the near or long-term future.

But, golly.

We're coming off a win. This LB should be hookers and Hormel chili, hallelujahs and hijinks.

It was a nice win (despite the, you know, four goals against). "Process" was tossed around.

And it was a tease. Every time the Wings show glimpses of what they could be when they're good, you know balls of dark painful blue will soon follow.
