I NOW Consider The Wings Primed For "a run"

02/03/2017 at 6:25pm EST

So, the Wings waived one of their prized young defensemen today.

"Prized."

I was never sold on him, despite glowing reports from elsewhere. Marchenko was a lackey's device to defend Ken Holland and I am not about a life that includes defending Ken Holland.

He'll probably be back.

A few quotes from a few diggers today saying Nice Mike Babcock thinks the Wings are capable of a "run." Zetterberg allegedly said that to GregG Krupa today too. Blashill may believe it because, holy shit, he may be that out of touch. Zetterberg doesn't believe it at all.

I read Krupa's piece on Zetterberg today.

...he said he believes the Red Wings still have a shot at the playoffs.

But, oh, their galling inconsistency!

A lot of things bothered me about that article and I'd like to list them for you.

1. Zetterberg absolutely does not believe the Wings have any shot at the playoffs. He's too smart for that and I thought Gregg was smarter, too. He's frigging redolent, after all. That paraphrased optimism is absolute bullshit and I feel dirty even referencing it.

2. Men don't use exclamation points.

3. It disgusts me that Henrik Zetterberg is the focus of a feature spelling out how he has to captain a Detroit Red Wing team that is so terrible. Again, surprisingly, I completely blame Ken Holland.

Your legacy, Tick Tock. You allowed hockey's greatest franchise to fall to this depth because you genuinely have no idea how to build or sustain a team in today's NHL.

But, hey, at least it's Friday and we've got ourselves a live blog, bitches.

LGRW and fire Ken Holland. For god's sake, Fire Ken Holland.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
