Holy Hell The Hills Are Filled With Fire

Okie was on the money yesterday when he got the Aerosmith/Stress Train reference three minutes after the Live Blog posted.  He was right again this morning when he pointed out that three games in four days means all the glad could very well  be turned to sadness so very soon.

We are in for so much trouble today.  The Defending Stanley Cup Champions are in town and the horror is too thick to type about.  The Wings are tired, so very tired.  Gary's made them play so much hockey in such a short period of time and now we get The Champs.  JFC. RSV.

Winning this game is just too much to ask.  RWBill wants to know how much PK/PP energy our two leaders expended yesterday?

7:33 of special minutes for Datsyuk, 7:29 for Zetterman.  Tired, tired, tired.

The Champions haven't played since Thursday.  It's too much to ask.  Too tall an order.  Our boys are exhausted, tuckered out, the strain is too much and the train is full of drunkards, worried and unclean.  The imperfect storm has finally arrived. God help us all.

Wings win 3-1.  Wally, White and...Stirs Shit With Massive Wooden Spoon.

Holy crap I ddn’t realize it is so late, I need to run in and buy some Pappy Van Winkle.  Just kidding, they don’t sell it at the PX, or the Virginia ABC, so have to be Maker’s Mark, or rot gut.

It is still light outside so thought it was about 4:30.  As the days begin to lengthen, the cold begins to strengthen.

Watched the game today at The Orleans’ Brendan’s Irish Pub.  I’ve had the greatest luck in that the TV was muted in favor of all the friggin’ treeball games going on so I never had to hear that jackass-bar-none Olcsux.  And given the LB today, I’m glad I missed it.

E52’s has completely settled down his game this year.  He’s playing simpler and less frantically.  On that GWG, he had his head up the whole time - shades of TPH.  The big fucher is learning.

Brilliant win by the Wings.  And then I look at the schedule:  Wings play the B’Lose on friggin’ “Rivalry Night” on NBC.  “Rivalry Night?”  Really, NBC?  Really?  Holy fuch…

Yes!  Detroit is really good at that subtle interference.  They’ve been doing it for years.

Well at this pace they are headed for 12 games over .500 and 60 points, and I’m estimating 54 as the floor to get in the top 8, based on previous years’ 82 game schedule.

So, does Holland like his team?  Given all that’s gone on it could be worse and costing us $18,000,000 more.

I think Babcock and Zetterberg deserve a lot of credit.  I didn’t see us righting the ship this quickly… If righted only temporarily.

I just finished watching the second and third periods and…

I. Do. Not. Be. Lieve. What. I. Just. Saw.

That puck slid across the line as if in slow motion.  Oh wait.  It “hit a patch of ice.”  Edzo the Moron.

Ericsson the hero?!?!?!?!?  Wow.

I think maybe our Wings are back?  What fantastic effort the past two games!

P.S. James M.F. Tiberius Howard is the new god.

There are statistics, and then there is this:

Since the 2010-11 season, the Wings are 38-1-5 – that’s a magnificent .920 winning percentage – when Datsyuk scores.

You thought that too huh?  I was seeing flashes of #5 in his game the past few games and has probably been doing it all season unnoticed.  Settled, smooth, aware, responsible.  Guy is frickin’ gettin’ it done.  LOVE his play so far in his own zone, actually playing his size, routinely literally knocking forwards off the puck.  Awesome awesome play.

Agreed about Ericsson.  Even before his GWG, I was planning to comment about how he seemed to be playing MUCH better and using his body well.  Guess Tick Tock and Uncle Mike knew what they were doing with him, eh?

And I read a comment by someone (RWBILL?) that Babcock made a brilliant coaching decision playing Jimmah again.  Indeed.

Here is an astute comment by Babcock:

Watch Pavel Datsyuk and you talk about how skilled he is.

“When I watch Pavel Datsyuk play all I think about is the will he has and how determined he is.

I’m guilty - I’m amazed by his skill - - I rarely “think” about how hard he works.

Apparently Tootoo thinks Datysuk is the best player on the planet:

“The nice thing is that he leads by example,” said Tootoo. “He’s a quiet guy but he does all the little things. You watch him in the game or in practice and it’s kind of soothing to watch.

“I work to get better every day. I’ve been a pro for almost 10 years now and there’s no better play to learn from than the best player in the world.”

Suck on that NBC.

Big for keeping LA without any points too, and EDM.  Playoff race is going to be tight, shutting them out from points is big too in addition to getting four.

This is actually an important point about every game this season.  Every game is against a Western Conference opponent fighting for a playoff spot and playoff positioning.  Gary might be on to something here.

I think this is the link to the greatest call in sports history, ” The puck hits an ice patch and goes in.”

Holy *#$%@& I just fell in love with Edzo.  He has finally caught up with the Douche Canoe and Pavel Datsyuk’s wind aided goal.

“When I watch Pavel Datsyuk play all I think about is the will he has and how determined he is.

Always been my favorite part about him.  Used to tell my buddy all the time that the Wings were the best team because our star players worked like grinders.  Tenacious hockey players are always my favorite and Pav’s about as tenacious as they come.  I saw he even pulled himself out of position there after the Doughty hit to delivery some retribution, but we’ve seen it a million times.  Take a run at him and he’ll pull your pants down.  He’ll either give you some back or put one on the scoreboard and usually in a way where there’s no mistaking what willed him to it, like today, on the exact same play, 2 minutes later.

Spent the weekend in Winnipeg…got to watch the HNIC broadcast with real hockey media professionals. By the end of the first period it dawned on me how awful NBC’s broadcasts are. The Canadian play-by-play was great…you could close yer eyes and still know what was happening on the ice. About 5 minutes into today’s Wings broadcast and the bile was at the top of my throat…close your eyes and you’d think you were listening to a porn flick starring the Douche Canoe crew gobbling the Kings. Way to go Pavel, Big E and the Wings! Jimmah was a god today.

As unlikely as it may seem, your Detroyet Red Wings are 7th in the league for % of points earned:

1 CHICAGO       .917
2 BOSTON       .850
3 NEW JERSEY .792
4 ANAHEIM .773
5 SAN JOSE .727
6 VANCOUVER .727

That is ridickyoulous, isn’t it?  I keep thinking, what if they had won those 2 games against the worst teams in the western conference?  9-2-1, which certainly seems unbelievable considering they were 1-2.

Well, it is unbelievable because it didn’t happen, but 7-4-1 is much better than I envisioned after the first week, ahead of Nashville and St. Louis.  And Columbus.
