GDT - Game #81:  Red Wings host Devils (7:30)

DET (48-27-5) are 4th in Conference again thanks to a miraculous come-from-behind road victory at STL last night.  The Wings rallied from, what had to be total dejection going down 2 goals in the 3rd.  The PP has become indescribably bad.  At one time, in the not too distant past, you could reasonably expect it to score a goal per game, it was so good.  Nowadays, you just hope that it doesn’t give up more scoring opportunities than it generates.  Some direct talk from Babcock:  “I hated our power play, I mean I hated watching that. I thought early in the game we had them in their zone two minutes, we had lots of opportunity and then that five-minute thing, when you give that up, that’s a tough one.’’  The Wings have got to get the PP out of the liability column.

No early word on who will start in net against the 6th in the East NJD (46-28-6), or who sits on the defense rotation (I’d suggest Yak - he was terrible last night).  Home ice is tantalizingly close.  LGRW.

Impressed with their play last night (except for that whole “no shots on a five minute major while giving up yet ANOTHER freaking shortie)...because that was a pretty good game against a suprisingly pretty good Blues team.

The first two periods were REALLY fun to watch.  I sure hope the Wings have finally remembered that they’re the freakin Wings and ALL the games should be played like that…except for that whole “no shots on a five minute major while giving up yet ANOTHER freaking shortie.

Should be another decent game tonight.

I’m glad for the win, don’t get me wrong. But is it too much to ask for them not to infuriate me before giving me a happy ending?

It’s eerily reminiscent of when I was married to my starter wife a long, long time ago.

It took Babcock this long to hate the power play?  Really?  Just last night he thought, “Wow, that power play sucks, I can’t stand watching it.”  Jesus.

And for all of you who think that tonight is aboot watching Parise, our next top 3 forward….

Dougstradamus has peered into the future, through the mists of time, and seen Ken Holland at a press conference discussing the Parise signing.

“No, I’m not happy that Edmonton signed Parise. But as I have stated previously, I am happy with our team as is.”

Snarky bastard - - hilarious.

DAL (9th, 3 points behind the Sharts) should be fighting for their lives tonight at NSH.  Of course, going 3-7 in their last ten doesn’t give me much confidence they’ll put up much fight.

Kindl is in the doghouse. It’s shocking because even though he was crap last night, his crap game wasn’t significantly worse than pre-injury ericsson.

I’m starting to think The Wings will win The Cup, but only if the officials stop calling penalties entirely in the playoffs.  If you want to beat The Wings, take a major penalty!  Nothing like five minutes of shorthanded time to get the scoring chances rolling in!

From the last TMR post-

The Blues are a good team that bought into Hitch’s system, and given the way the NHL is calling games…the Blues’ style works. That said….it was a back and forth war of attrition, and I agree, once the Blues went up 1-0 I thought it was over, and I laughed when it went 2-0…but once Franzen scored that first goal…the Blues just turtled.

THAT was the most surprising part. The Wings, the Sharks, the Nucks, and probably even the Preds could take them in the first round if they implode that quickly.

I’m more surprised the Blues just…shut down then the Wings coming back.

Only slight change from yesterday, unless you’re a Wings fan.  I agree with everyone who has stated that the final standings and seedings are far less important than how you play in the playoffs ( I think that’s what you were trying to say, if not go suck DC’s cock ).

But with this team you can’t over estimate playing at home.

Babcock:  “I hated our power play, I mean I hated watching that.

And the fans do not? Tough crap Uncle Mike. It is your job along with your coaching staff to make it work. You have been too busy writing a book and lobbying for another job as Coach for Team Canada in 2014 to have paid attention to what we have had to hate watching for more than one season.
You have Pavel and Z as well as TPH and Kronners. And, a bevy of other guys, an entire Team mind you, that are very talented as well as hard working. How many other coaches would give their right arm for just one of these players?

This season special teams have been incredibly bad, so, before lamenting aboot hating to watch this abortion of a power play, or, how St.Louis is physical and we are not, fix the damn thing.

You get paid to win Cups, not Gold Medals, or, to write credos for living.

Thanks OAkie.

It’s a distinct possibility. Especially if the Wings have a power play.

Most recently of all, a “5 Minute Power Play” was held from which we have received more than two dozen reports of individual acts of perversion SO profound and disgusting that decorum prohibits listing them here.
