GDT - Game #76:  Red Wings host Blue Jackets (7:30)

If DET (45-25-5) have any realistic aspirations of securing the 4th seed in the Western Conference, then sweeping the home and home with the BJ’s, starting tonight at the Joe, is imperative.  The Central Division standings today show the Wings trailing NSH by only 1 point, but by two regulation/overtime wins (NSH annihilated the ‘Hawks in Chicago last night, 6-1).

The Wings showed a lot of intestinal fortitude in their 5-4 win over Carolina, but the PK continues to be an embarrassment (0-2 on the PK, at new lows of ineptitude, 79.6% on the season). But they did win, and snapped a 6 game losing streak.

There is absolutely no reason, other than Jobu, the Wings shouldn’t dominate play against the BJ; who have dropped six of their last eight. CBJ are last in the league in points, they trail MTL and EDM by a whopping 16.  The BJ’s score only 2.28 G/G (28), and surrender 3.17 GA/G (29); and their special teams are, if you can imagine, worse than the Wings (15.1 PP% (25), 76.4 PK% (30)).  Just how bad is it for the BJ?  Of all their skaters appearing in more than 5 games, only one is a + player, two are even, everyone else is a minus.  Compare to DET, only Homer (-5) and Q (-2) are minus players, Eaves (10 games, even), everyone else is a + player.

DET need to get on a roll, no better way to start than with a BJ.  LGRW

How ‘bout that PAC Divsion??

1 point separates 3, 7, 8, and 9.  1 point difference between division champion and home ice for possibly 2 rounds, and missing the playoffs altogether.

PHX maybe the most tenuous as they’ve played 2 more games, smallest margin for error.

Well, the 19 they say - that hopefully the Mule’s small heart will grow three sizes some day. And then - the true meaning of the Stanley Cup will come through, and the Mule will find the strength of *ten* mules, plus two!

I’m ready for the Wings to get the ship righted.  I’ve been throwing up in my mouth daily over this team for over a month.  As nice as Saturday’s win was, coming back from 4-1 is not a recipe for success.  Shit’s gotta change, and its gotta change now.

THAT SAID, the Jackets play better against the Wings than practically anyone else.  I expect this series to be split 1-1, but that won’t stop me from hoping for the best!

Nice Captain. Nice. There is one thing that we all need to be reminded of. Mule, as much as I like to whip up on him, as much as the 19 bitch aboot him, he is the one who signed the contract offered to him by Tick-Tock. He is wearing the Winged Wheel, so it has to mean something to him.
I contend that no matter how much money Hossa was offered he was NEVER going to sign with the Wings. I don’t think that he ever had the best interest of his rental team at heart. He saw an opportunity to make aboot 7 million bucks and took the money and ran. I hope Mule has learned his lesson, and, that injury has been his biggest problem this season instead of lack of heart.

Thanks OAkie.

Of all the things I was going to comment on this page, when did “teaching” and “prepping” go together?

JK, my daughter worked her tail off the first year of teaching last year, maybe she’s finding ways to work smarter this year with her 4th grade, Title I class consisting of 40% English as Second Language students.

She has to translate her evaluations of kids into Spanish and give them to the official Spanish translation staff at school for approval before sending them home with the kids, where she almost never gets any feedback or acknowledgement from homes.

Winston-Salem, NC, if you can believe it, not a southern tier border state.
