GDT - Game #74:  Red Wings at Rangers (7:30)

DET (44-25-4) are at the Big Apple tonight to play the Eastern Conference leading NYR (45-20-7).  NYR goalie Henrik Lundqvist is posting Vezina numbers this season, 33-15-5,  1.89 GAA (3),  0.934 Save% (2), #2 inWins, and #1 in Shutouts with 8.  No worries though, the Wings will counter with goalie Ty Conklin or Jordan Pearce (in what would be his NHL debut).

In their past seven games, the Red Wings have trailed 3-0 to Washington, 2-0 to San Jose, 4-0 to Anaheim, 2-0 to Los Angeles, 3-1 to Nashville, 2-1 to Los Angeles and 3-1 to Philadelphia - - the Wings went 1-5-1 in that stretch.

Into this world we’re thrown, like a dog without a bone. I got nothing else.  LGRW.

You didn’t have to ask how bad it is:

The Red Wings, meanwhile, will be without goalie Jimmy Howard, who is day-to-day after re-aggravating a groin injury that caused him to miss three games earlier this month.  The club recalled Ty Conklin from the Grand Rapids Griffins. If he clears re-entry waivers at noon Wednesday, he will start against the Rangers. If Conklin is claimed, Jordan Pearce will make his NHL debut.

Thanks OAkie.

So that’s why I’ve been conditioned to expect things to go wrong every time I turn on the game?

If Conklin is claimed, Jordan Pearce will make his NHL debut.

..and either Brad Stuart or Ken Holland will backup.

If there’s any good news, it’s that the Pred-necks haven’t exactly been the steamroller everyone seems to think they are lately.  Even in their lone victory in the past four games, they were badly outplayed So there’s your silver lining for today, folks.

Oh, and it could always be worse—we could be Sharks fans.  Take a look at how badly that train has run off the rails.  And their team is healthy.  Okay, I’m just trying to cheer everybody up.  Is it working?

No.

So things have gotten so bad that we have to look at Sharks fans and consider ourselves lucky? Ugh. I must be living in denial; things are worse than I thought if that’s the case.

But like Nat said, thanks for trying.

I was looking forward to this game during the home win streak (boy, does that seem ages ago or what?).  Now I just feel…sad.

It would be nice to play with the lead for once.  Hopefully, tonight is the night the ship rights itself and we see a glimmer of what this team is capable of.

Let’s go Red Wings!!!

(thank you, OakieJeff as always!)

If Conks is claimed, who would back up Pearce? What an odd situation. Hopefully the Rangers play passively tonight after locking in their trip to the post season. Still it would be nice to switch spots with Chicago and play Dallas in the 1st round.

I’d only want to play Dallas so I could go to a game in person.

These injuries really are unbelievable. But I’ve got faith for some reason. I think they’re going to surprise us.

No, at the rate the Wings are playing he may have all summer to let it heal.

Lolololol ouch it hurts to laugh, except derisively.

I really was going to break out the 2012 version of the Peloton of Suck, at the behest of some (1) of the 19, but the thought of creating a chart with the Red Wings absolutely flatlined from left to right was just too depressing.

And worse, heading into NYR tonight with Conklin and Pearce and then just 8 games left, it is very easy with the POS to extend it to the right, future, and see just how the Wings could fall below the POS!

I haven’t looked at each game’s opponent yet know tonight is NYR and the last is CHI.  3, 4 or 5 more teams could easily hit 95-100 points.  Can anyone say it’s for certain that the Wings will finish above 100…  How about 96?  Where are those points going to come from??

Even just 3 wins isn’t easily imagined, and that would leave us at a very vulnerable 98.

I need to create a 2012 POS.  RSV.  One thing it did do 2 years ago was propel the Wings into a tremendous win streak.  Well, it was either that or Franzen returning.

I’d be salty if they let the 100pnt season streak end.

Just make the freakin’ playoffs.

Weren’t Philly an 8th seed in 2010?

I’ve started watching games like I watch the wreck on the side of the freeway, but how many times have we slumped into the playoffs and they turn it on?

I’m over the season, just make the playoffs
