GDT - Game #69:  Red Wings at Predators (8:00)

DET (44-21-3) are at NSH (39-21-7) for the start a four game road trip.  A quick check of the Central Division standings tells you just about everything you need to know about tonight’s tilt.  DET needs to keep pace with STL (for DET to “catch” the Blues, they will have to pass them in points as STL have more ROW.  STL host the BJ tonight).  NSH is only 6 back of DET, and tonight is their game in hand.

The road hasn’t been kind to the Wings, missing 1/3 of your starters certainly won’t help much (but isn’t Brendan Smith a frigging stud).  DET have only two regulation victories in its last 11 road games, winning three times in shootouts during that stretch.  Thankfully, Hank has caught fire, 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in his past 16 games.

NSH are 11-1-2 in their last 14 home games, allowing two goals or fewer 12 times during that span.  Since losing his first three home starts, Pekka Rinne - (37 W, league leader) - is 22-5-4 with a 2.27 goals-against average at home.  NSH have scored 18 power-play goals in the third period this year, tied with the Senators for the most in the NHL - - trouble?

The Wings eeked out a 4-3 win last, despite a season low 15 SOG.  Need more shoot.

Same old song and dance, on the injury front, my friend:  Missing seven regulars – forwards Datsyuk, Todd Bertuzzi (groin) and Justin Abdelkader (flu); defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom (ankle), Jonathan Ericsson (wrist) and Jakub Kindl (upper body); and goalie Jimmy Howard (groin).

For the Predators, D Kevin Klein (upper body) is out.

Bog damn it all, after all these injuries,  now Zetterberg is on fire?  Was it arson?  Do we have any suspects?

Also, why the hell does Brendan Smith play in the AHL?

I want to be more impressed with Cory Emmerton. Right now I want Gustav Nyquist centering our fourth line.

Thanks, Okie!

Definitely “need more shoot.”  Mostly, I just hope the Wings have the energy to come out and battle.  ‘Cuz it will be a battle, for sure.

Won’t be in the LB ‘cuz I’ll be listening to the Michigan hockey game live.  Will watch the Wings after that.

Thanks as always for the GDT Okie. Definitely nice to have the statistical data readily available every gameday morning.

Just like last night, I don’t care how it’s done, just get the bloody W Detroit. I hope Gator’s gonna be able to go tonight.

I wonder if that line that got the GWG will be seen again? Franzen-Helm-Nyquist, sounds like the perfect combo of skill, speed and grit, especially if Mule is as pissed as he was on that final shift last night.

Will be at work as usual (this farking team always seem to skip my days off, Sunday and Monday), but following along on my phone, as well having the game PVR’d for later.

MsRed I’m hoping the M hockey game will appear somewhere but don’t see it on cable anywhere.  It will be televised in Detroit so may be a bootleg tv stream somewhere.  Otherwise I’m with you, I’ll be listening to it.  I like the M play by play guy, been doing it for years and I’ve streamed some M hockey games here in VA since the mid 90s.

What a nice game by Smith.  NyQuil made some great stick moves too and almost quick-snapped a goal.

Always tough to get goals versus Nashville, and last night’s discombobulated effort on offense doesn’t give me a lot of hope.  Maybe they will build on last night’s late “gelling” of the offense.

Word.  Emmer has said that he’s better as a winger than a centerman.  And I really wished the coaches would stop messing with the HEMI line.  I know that the Wings like to make their lineup as interchangeable as possible but you just don’t mess with chemistry.

We outright stole two last night guys.  The cops should have been called.  We did not deserve 2.  I can see why Kings fans were furious.

Given our anemic scoring, I am dreading today’s game.  It’s nice to see Fil and Z step up, but… where’s that been all season long Z?

Smith was awesome.  Funny how nobody now is wondering why he wasn’t traded.  And I still say he’s better NOW than Ericsson is.

This is a terrible way to head towards the playoffs though.

I love that play-by-play guy too. Gets SO excited whenever there’s a shot on goal or great save. Hoping for a video feed, but listening then watching highlights on mgoblue works too. Next weekend’s games are on FSD.
