GDT - Game #62:  Red Wings host Canucks (7:30)

The Red Wings (41-18-2) will try to extend their NHL-record home winning streak to 24 games tonight when they host the Canucks (38-16-6) who will be trying to end the streak and gain a share of the lead in the race for the Presidents’ Trophy. The Wings have a league-leading 84 points, just two more than the Canucks.  DET own the most points in the NHL due to their staggering success at home (26-2-1), while VAN’s success is due to their road warrior status, a league best 20-10-2.

Both teams skate tonight coming off losses.  DET’s 2-1 loss at CHI ended their 6 game winning streak.  VAN lost 3-1 at NSH on Tuesday.

Something has got to give.  LGRW.

Excited for this game tonight.  Just hoping that my power will be back on in time for me to watch the game.  It’s been off since 6 p.m. last night.

This should be a great game with an amazing atmosphere at the Joe.

Let’s go Red Wings!!!!!

G’morning, Jeff.  Another day but the GDT makes it all better.

DET own the most points in the NHL due to their staggering success at home (26-2-1), while VAN’s success is due to their road warrior status, a league best 20-10-2.

Something has to give.

Word.  Sometimes, the best thing the Wings can do (esp. after that pitiful, headless chicken routine last Tuesday night) is to just go out and play.  Do that and we’ll walk out with two points.

I don’t see the PDF listing the officials calling the game tonight.  As soon as it’s up, I’ll get that right away.

Here is some good news from Khan

Datsyuk said he hopes to start skating Friday and is confident he can return in two weeks.

. . . .

Babcock said he’ll use same lines and D pairs, with Quincey in for Kindl, as last game, in warmups, but hinted he will mix it up afterward.

Quincey:  “A lot of people were asking me about Colorado Saturday night, but trust me, I’m really focused on tonight. I don’t want to be the guy that messes that up.”

Even I didn’t foresee 2 more years for the Unibomber,  I thought at most one more then see. Its damn tough to crack the Wings forward position. Tough pill to swallow for the one or two who only notice Bert when there’s a mistake made, lmao, they know better than Holland, Babcock (the coach who “the players have tuned out” ) Lidstrom, et.al., all those who love having him on the team.

How important is Pavel Datsyuk to the Wings’ success,  CBC.ca answers that for you:

Detroit is just 12-12-4 without Datsyuk in the lineup since 2010-11 (76-31-8 with him on the ice).

Whether the Wings are Cup champs or are eliminated in the second round, for all the other teams in the league, every game against the Wings is a statement game. That simple fact pisses off the special needs executives in NY that run the NHL as well as the fan base of every other NHL team. But all those other team owners sure love the guaranteed sell outs that always occur when the Winged Wheelers are in town.

Nothing lasts forever, but as hard as it was to imagine in 1982, when Mr. I bought the Wings, that the Wings would ever contend for (let alone win) the Cup, it is even harder to imagine that the Organ-I-zation will ever fall into the depths of disrepair that the Leafs, Oilers or Islanders have since their glory days (2 playoff appearances total for all three teams in the six seasons since the lockout).

I am so psyched.  The Wings at the Joe have that ‘08 shine on.  The Nucks really left a lot in the tank in Nashville.  To be honest, if money was on the line I might have to take the Wings (in OT).  Still hoping to make Howard look like Conklin.
Let’s hope this is a preview of the WCF.

This is the photo of the first Stanley Cup winning team, Montreal Hockey Club of 1893

Proudly displayed up front is Lord Stanley trophy. Take a look at the logo on the jerseys. It looks very familiar and that’s why:
“In 1932, the NHL let grain merchant James E. Norris, who had made two previous unsuccessful bids to buy an NHL team, purchase the Falcons. Norris’ first act was to choose a new name for the team – the Red Wings. Earlier in the century, Norris had played on one of hockey’s early powers, the Montreal HC, nicknamed the “Winged Wheelers.” Norris transformed the club’s logo into the first version of the Red Wings logo as it is known today” (source: Wiki)

I never knew that and only found out today.
