GDT - Game #60:  Red Wings host Sharks (12:30)

With a win today, DET (40-17-2) will have recorded 23 consecutive home wins, the most ever in the NHL (22 consecutive wins held by the 1929-30 BOS Bruins and DET).  Winning against SJS (31-18-7) will be the icing on the record, as the Wings are their whipping boy.  The Sharks have won the last five regular season games against the Wings, and to add insult to injury, have eliminated DET in the second round of the playoffs the past two seasons.  This shit has got to stop, no time like the present.

JMac in net again, he’s hot says Babcock:

“MacDonald is playing too good. I’m going to give Howard two more days,’’ Babcock said. “The other guy (MacDonald) is playing great. It gives (Howard) two more days to practice. Why would I rush it when the other guy’s playing good?’‘

Datsyuk has a sore throat but Babcock said he will play Sunday.

Danny Cleary (sore knee) practiced again today and said he is aiming to return on Tuesday.

You know, San Jose has a record identical to Chicago’s and similar goalie issues.  Yet, my stress level is not getting any better.

All sorts of sky is falling doom and gloom stuff going on upstairs right now.

Crap, and I’m all firetrucks, hookers and cheddar cheese up-stairs.

DET play with so much confidence at home.

Invincible.

One of the greatest gifs ever, and another reason why Thornton is a little bitch.  Thank God, he got 2 for unsportsmanlike for diving.  Unfortunately, Franzen got 2 for slashing the little bitch.

I started reading some of the threads from last year’s playoffs, now I’m getting charged like you other bitches.

From Pollak at the Mercury News:

Antti Niemi gets a chance to respond to the challenge issued after his six-goals-against performance in Tampa Bay. . .

Jason Demers is available and likely to play after missing nine games with a lower body injury.

West coast is in da house.  Now where’s my coffee?  Whose insane idea was it to start a game at such an unreasonable hour?

HAHAHAHA!

But seriously, given the Wings’ mojo at home, I believe the Wings will win.

Enjoy the LB everyone.  I’ll be curled up in a chair in front of the TV, chewing my nails.  Thank the hockey gods it’s Ken Daniels doing play-by-play!

G’morning, Jeff.  Nice to wake up to the best damn GDT on the Gore.  Always thankful for it.

This shit has got to stop, no time like the present.

Word.  Getting sick of the persistent Dive-like (with Sakic and Forsberg) albatross with the chum.

Hello one anf all. Jeff, good luck and godspeed.

I’m with you Okie. Normally, I would have the feeling of impending doom because it’s the Sharks, but they’ve been erratic with their play lately, 3-5 this month, including having lost their last two. I’m actuallt thinking a lopsided Wings victory is in the cards. I’m just glad I get to actually watch the game live for once.

Babs idea of understated motivation.  I think he wants to win this one.

“They’ve beat us every time we played them this year (twice). It must be time to say enough’s enough,’’ Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “We got to do something about that.’‘

It is still just a regular season game. Would love a win today, but won’t be Armageddon with a loss. RW is right. All it takes is an unfortunate bounce or a bad use of judgement by a zebra

That was also the play that put Franzen on the shelf for that series.  Jumbo Choke obviously knew the ankle was an issue and clealy went after it with what I recall was a pretty unnecessary, but obviously intentional low hit along the boards that rammed Mule’s feet into the kick plate.

Couple of comments on that.

I still have no clue why the Wings were so casual about stating the exact nature of Franzen’s injuries so that every opponent pretty much knew which part of the body to target.  I couldn’t believe it when they disclosed it, and sure enough it only took a few games for someone to smell the blood in the water and exploit it when the opportunity arose.

I also can’t understand why no Detroit player ever stepped up and challenged Thornton’s sorry ass over it.  I know it’s not the Red Wings’ M.O.  But seriously, there are certain things that cannot go unaccounted for, and taking out your top scorer (not to mention diving like a whining ass little bitch over the love tap across the shin pads that followed) certainly qualifies.  Bastard should have been in someone’s cross-hairs after that.
